Very Fun Game
The cards were a lot smaller than I was expecting but it turns out Hanafuda cards are just small. It's a fun game to learn, although the scoring is a bit hard to get used to. This set is very good for 6 dollars. They're very tough cardboard and the images are high quality. I might get a more expensive set later on though.

My first set, completely satisfied
This is my first set, and I am glad I didn't go for the more expensive options as this is a great value at the low price I paid. The cards are much thicker than I expected, and though the corners are pointy the edges look nice (some of the other reviews made me expect something cheaper-looking). The artwork is beautiful and seems just as good as any other set to my untrained eyes. Includes instructions in Japanese with small black and white pictures. I already knew vaguely how to play, so I really only refer to the instruction sheet as a reminder for the hands / card months.

Worth the Wait
I had to wait for a couple of months for these cards to arrive from Japan. I have been playing on my phone, and my friends insist they want to play with real cards, so these fill the bill. I was surprised how small the cards are, but when you think about it, there are a lot of cards face up on the table, so it makes sense for them to be small. They are actually made of cardboard, and the backs are a plain dark grey. There are two plain cards, presumably for use in case you lose a couple, because the blanks are not used in the game. I was hoping that there would be English instructions for the game, but no such luck - the instructions are Japanese. This is a fun game, so you can look up English instructions online. It is a two-person game, and I am gradually learning the rules and strategy. I am pleased to have an actual deck now, so the wait was worth it.

Hanafuda on a Budget
For the price, this Hanafuda deck is not bad. The cards are a made of a cardboard not unlike that used in cereal boxes, but a bit thicker. One side is printed black, the opposite has the card face printed on with a black border. Some of the colors are a little washed out, but nothing too bad to make it unplayable. The edges are exposed instead of being wrapped like you'd see on the Nintendo or Angel decks. The exposed edges might not hold up long term, but time will tell.If your budget allows, even the cheapest Nintendo deck is leaps and bounds better than these. That said, at this price point, the cards are decent. If you're on a budget and you prefer the art on Japanese hanafuda decks over Korean hwatu decks, you can't go wrong with these. The cards are entirely playable, but durability is a concern. If you want something more durable at the same price point, there are a plethora of Korean hwatu decks which will serve you better since they're made out of a credit card like plastic. The trade off is the art on some hwatu decks aren't as detailed or colorful in my experience.
