Homecoming
I really loved this story. Going back to 1959 and the to present day was quite clear and not confusing. The mysteries throughout the story keep you interested so it was often hard to put down. I thought I had it all figured out, but was quite surprised at the twist in the very end. My favorite Kate Morton book!

3.5 to 4.0 Stars
I generally enjoy Kate Morton’s writing, but I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book that I will need some time to sort through. The plot is intricate and becomes more so over the course of reading the book. It is actually a very interesting and well thought out plot. The last third of the book was wonderful as pieces began to fit together and questions and speculation became more easily answered.I think that my hesitation in giving this book a rousing 4-5 stars is in the fact that I felt it ran on a bit…..and it did not engage me as thoroughly throughout the book as some of Ms. Morton’s other books have. The characters were all really well designed - believable, human, and entertaining - I did enjoy them all. The book is a mystery story with plot twists that sometimes turned on a dime and sometimes were easier to extrapolate from.I DID enjoy the book - I just a bit more deep engagement! I will happily await Kate Morton’s book!

Great book
I really enjoyed this book and there is a lot going on here. The plot includes several mysteries within mysteries so just when you think you have it figured out (because for the most part it seems pretty straightforward), there's a gentle little twist that turns you away from your original conclusion. The plot is great, the characters are very well written though I felt that Jess was the weakest and least enjoyable POV of the bunch, which is tough when she's a primary storyteller. The first two thirds of the book do meander a bit and it's a very long book so it was slow; however, things really pick up in the last third and the mysteries wrap up nicely. 4.5 stars - great plot, mostly well written characters, some slow reading but overall a great story and mystery.

complicated and spell-binding
This book has many twists and turns and I’m happy to report that all loose ends come together in the end. Whilst the prologue is very long - the story is hard to put down.

In the end, the book was just too long
Kate Morton is a wonderful writer, a great spinner of tales. For the first 250 pages I was mesmerized by the story she was telling, of a tragedy that happened to a family in 1959, discovered by a young woman related to that family in 2018. The tragedy was mysterious—how DID the family of a mother and her four children die, who was to blame. It took 250 pages to lay the incident out, again as with so many modern books, the going back and forth between 1959 and 2018, multiple voices telling the story. And there were still 275 pages to go! Much as I had enjoyed the book, and wanted to know what would happen, I couldn’t face another 275 pages. So I skipped to the final 50 pages for the solution. It was a good ending and sometime in the future, when I can get the book again, I may read those pages that I skipped. I do think that Morton might have got away with writing a perfectly wonderful 350 page book and that’s why I gave it 3 stars. It’s worth reading though, the descriptions of Australia brought back memories of my own brief time there many years ago. It’s just that, at 552 pages, it’s quite a time commitment. Not easy when the library is only lending it out as a short lend.

A homecoming is not for the faint of heart
Upon learning that her beloved grandmother Nora has suffered a severe fall, Jess rushes to Sydney from London. In a semi-conscious state, Nora mutters a few garbled phrases that send Jess on a quest to untangle family history long hidden by lies and subterfuge.I have a lifelong habit of smugness when it comes to mysteries and plots, Halfway through a book I will sit back with a smirk and know for certain that I am not fooled by the red herrings. No, I am not fooled. The author has failed to keep her surprise for the end. Oh, no, I have it all figured out... And then, if the author is good, the third time this happens and I'm proven a rookie again, I am rewarded with surprise after surprise. Kate Morton had me rethink her plotting all along. I never got to smugness at any point. I was completely out-thunk fair and square. She gave us characters that were so well drawn that they are not only memorable but relatable to people we already know. The landscapes and structures are visible to the mind's eye. And the storyline—her story takes us through tangled forest pathways and dusty country roads to a shady, grassy spot under a giant willow. That is where the knot of lies and misunderstandings becomes Jess's mystery to discover and then pry apart to find a truth that can be borne.Anyone who enjoys a good yarn, a mystery, a family story with many levels of truth. will enjoy Homecoming as much as I did. And I did. I really did.

Incredibly well written. Loved the quality
The print quality is great and I love the cover. Font size is easy on the eye. The book is much thicker than I expected. 500 pages ish. Definitely not as big as "Sleeping Beauties" by Stephen King but up there on the tier list. Worldbuilding is great and barely a chapter in I was invested in the characters.

Wow. What a novel.
I found the story hard to get into & wasn't in a hurry to carry on reading. Not sure when this changed into a real page turner with unforseen twists & turns which at one point had me shout "oh no" out loud. Very unlike me. Couldn't put it down as i needed to know what happened next right up to the final page. Have read her books before & enjoyed all of them. All renowned for dual times zones but very readable & very enjoyable. So glad I bought this.

Very well written
Along with Lucinda Riley, Kate Morton must be by far one of the best time slip writers . Her research is fantastic, she takes time to write a book not like some of the writers today who publish a book a month and her characters come to life, you either love them or hate them as with this book. I took an instant dislike to Nora who in my opinion was a nasty, self centered haridan who ruined the lives of a few people with her lies and secrets. Lots of plots pointing the finger at many people but as usual the ending was a surprise.
