In the picture I can see buttons at the top labelled 1 through 5. What do those do?

Sorry if this answer is a bit late - only 4 months lol.By default, those buttons will launch or switch to things on your Windows taskbar, in order from left to right. So say on my task bar, I've got Windows Explorer pinned next to the start button, Chrome to the right of it, Notepad++ to the right of that, etc - if I hit the 1 key, it launches Windows Explorer, 2 launches Chrome, etc. If they are already open, it will switch to those programs instead.These keys can be changed to launch other things instead, in the keyboard software.Hope this helps!

What's the difference between the "Business" & "Retail" versions? (Besides the price)

I believe the business version includes AES encryption.

The description says "...plug in the transceivers". Does this mean there are two of them, one for the mouse and one for the Keyboard?

There is only one plug for both. Remember that there is no ON/OFF button/switch on the keyboard, which we did not know when we bought it.

How ergonomic is this keyboard?

It is ok. I like the 5000 for being ergonomic myself. The price is around $50 on the 5000 but the palm rest is rubber a lot more comforable than the plastic. It also has a back bottom on the mouse.
