Works great / bought a second one
This is is exactly what we needed to keep pets dogs/cats corralled.Pro - fairly easy set up. (Keep the zip tie on until installed). Instructions okCon - finish could use some quality control. It had flecks of metal in the paint.

Easy to install, works great
I bought this gate to keep my very agile and active kitten separate while I introduced her to my older, more shy cat. Kitty was able to get out of any barrier so I needed something that worked better. This is so perfect. It looks nice, it is a quality gate, and was super easy to install. I was worried my kitten would be able to sneak between the bars, but there’s not enough space for that. The gate is also really easy to open and close, and will stay open if you push it all the way. I love how versatile the size is. I recently moved it to a smaller door frame, and just pulled off the extension to make it fit. It. only took 5 mins.

Bad bottom latch mechanism
Update 8/8/23: After writing my original review, the seller contacted me and after sending them some more information on the bottom latch issue, they sent a replacement part. It arrived quickly and was easy to install. It has been in for about a month and it is holding up well. After about a month and a half of trying, my most athletic cat has officially managed to jump the gate at least once, so I would reiterate that active and agile cats may not be deterred by the gate, but it works well against my other cats. Updating the star rating from 3/5 to 4/5 now that the bottom latch has been fixed.--Overall, I really like this gate. My cats aren't particularly agile, so the height is sufficient to keep them from jumping over. Though, if your cats are big jumpers, 55" might not be enough. I was initially impressed with the overall sturdiness of the construction of the gate. It is heavy metal, not the light aluminum or plastic of other pet gates. However, the plastic latch piece at the bottom of the gate broke within a week of setting up. The plastic pin piece keeps getting stuck inside the gate, no matter how gently you close the gate, so the gate only actually latches at the top. Thankfully the sturdiness of the rest of the gate means that just the top latch is enough to keep my cats from pushing through, but I don't know that it'll hold up to a dog. I am just hoping that the top latch doesn't start having the same issue in time. The only other issue I have with the gate is that I wish the bottom ramp was tall enough that the bottom frame rail would sit flush with it. As it is, the bottom rail sticks up from the ramp about 1/2 an inch and as a result, I've stubbed my toes and nearly broken them several times. If you are putting this in a high-traffic area, you want to make sure you either wear shoes or pay attention to your feet when you are going through. That being said, I do still like the gate. It was easy to install, the instructions were clear, and the gate looks much nicer than the makeshift barrier I had in place before.

This gate does work!
This gate has been perfect. We adopted a feral and our older full-grown cat only wants to bite her head (lol). We had to keep them in separate rooms which felt unkind to shut one up all day while the other could roam the rest of the house. With the gate - each cat has half the house to itself.Regarding the sidebars/pieces not lining up with the main part (holes don't quite line up) - husband just turned the 'bar' around to where there was no hole and drilled a new hole. It is rather close to the edge - but it works. Also, we thought about getting PVC (smallest diameter). You could drill holes where you want. The small PVC takes up the same amount of room as the end 'bars' that come with the gate, so that would also work. After actually installing the gate, we realized that we didn't even need the side 'bars' as our older home has a narrow hall - we had to remove some bolts and used plastic 'wall protectors' (maybe called wall pads) and got the perfect fit.I rather doubt that Amazon is able to read all the comments on so many products - so they may be unaware of the misfit of the side 'bars' and the gate on this item. But with a little McGuiver, it turned out to be just what we needed. We walk through it many times a day without any issues (it has been up for over a month now). We put a dishtowel on the bottom so it doesn't click shut until we want it to - our 2 cats have not noticed that they could push it open with the towel there...yet.All in all, we are very happy with the purchase!

You can use it for kids, too...
WOW, so, okay...I'm, like, the first person to write a review for this product and its effectiveness for keeping young children out of forbidden areas. I've owned cats before. Many of them, btw. At no point did I ever require a four-and-a-half foot tall gate to keep them out of my office. I could go on, but I digress.I'm of the opinion that the real demographic in need of this gate is idiots like me who bought a modern house with no doors and have toddlers in said house. For me, my office is on my top floor. Once you enter my house, you can walk up four flights of stairs and there will not be a door that impedes you at any point. A true moron designed the interior of my house. This has made my life a living hell because my toddler constantly goes up to my office and, among other things, pees on the floor.I needed a door to my office, basically. So previously I bought a "baby gate," which topped-out at about 40 inches tall. It was one of those fabric gates that rolled-up. It suffices to say that it was TOTALLY USELESS, and this was when the child was less than two. He literally just crawled under or over it. I'm not sure who the designers of these gates had in mind. Infants, I guess?...Clearly, I needed something taller than 40 inches and not made out vinyl or cotton, or whatever...So then I found this gate - over 55 inches and made out of metal. This has worked splendidly. My kid doesn't even bother with it, man. He's demoralized now. In a weird way, he seems happier. It's almost like he never wanted to come-up to my secret lair to begin with, but he was disappointed that I failed to prevent him from doing so. So, "yes," this gate also works at keeping out young humans - not just bionic cats that can vault a four and a half foot tall fence.
