Here's my OPITION on the Suunto Vertical
I just sold my Garmin Delta Solar with Ballistics, so my compair will be against that. The good bad and ugly, I've owned about 5 different Suunto's in the past and for me I like the simplicity of them. The Vertical is a step above those now. A touch screen and for me it's not a big seller, more of a oh I forgot it has that. It take a bit to understand the menu's and how to navigate them. A bit of grrrr with trying how to back out of a few of the interfaces, but thats about it. Some people have complained about being laggy, I haven't notice any of that quite yet, but I did also get a update when first configured. It's very very light, almost don't know I'm wearing it, and being such a large face thats a plus. Battery lifes seems pretty good, I wore it two days and used about 5% a day, I turned off Notifcations, but when enabled worked just prefect. On thing I did notice is the weather alert, that was always something I liked about the Suunto. I enabled storm warning, but yesterday we had a storm roll in the late afternoon and I did not get a storm warning, so that has my attention to see if it happens again. I haven't used much of the other apps yet but will test the gps in the next few days to make sure that's working correctly. I do like they include actual maps that you can download to your watch now and in color. I wish they allowed users to modify the watch faces, there are things that I want and others I don't. They have a bunch to choose from but just not what I wanted. For context I just sold a Garmin Tactix Delta with Ballistics. I really liked that one, but battery didn't quite meetup to what was promised, even with the solar and I didn't really have alot of battery draining process running. It lasted maybe a week or 5 days. Really good watch but the face was a bit to crowded and I'm older and eyes just can't see that small anymore.I still think these are way over prices for a basiclly a smart watch, but will probably come down at some point in the future. Bottem line, I think it's worth the purchase and if you are out and about there are tons of apps for those hobbies.Biggest disappointment beside not being able to configure the watch face is the wonky charger, it's about 1ft and wire thin, one tug and it's probably going to break.

Good Watch
Good watch I have had several over the years this one has best battery life out of all them, seems to hold up pretty good. Not sure how tough the watch face is gonna be, I am tough on things. Will find out

Best Suunto Yet
Beautiful design. Great battery life supplemented by solar charging. I have had days where I go to bed with more battery % than I started the day with and the watch never left my wrist. Map and navigation features are outstanding. My 3rd Suunto and my favorite by far.

Some outstanding implementations, and some stumbles
This would be a really nice watch for anyone that uses route guidance extensively, but doesn't care about wrist based heart rate or maybe 24/7 wear. First the pros:* Truly awesome implementation of route guidance that is very visible. Route management and creation through the app is also implemented very well. This is the best implementation I've seen across Garmin, Polar and Coros. It captures essential information, doesn't try to put too much on the screen and has a very responsive compass. Note however that these maps are not routable - they mostly provide context when navigating.* Great design - this is a nice looking watch that isn't as big as some, but has a nice presence on the wrist.* Battery life - I found the battery life to be comparable to, if not better than the Garmin Gen 1 Enduro. Solar also seems to make a difference in battery life as well.* Features tend to be pared down relative to Garmin, but I felt they had a good grasp of what was essential on the watch, so they didn't overcomplicate things.Cons:* There are some strange inconsistencies in the UI - for instance the placement of interval settings. I had trouble finding this reliably for some reason.* There are sharp angles where the watch meets the wrist, and it isn't always comfortable -- especially at night, or when the band was tightened down. People with more flesh on their arms probably won't have an issue.* The heart rate readings (for me) were way off. There was a very specific placement on my wrist that would help, but it is not where I'd normally wear it. The watch needed to be quite snug - to the point of discomfort, which was exacerbated by the hard angular nature of the watch (see previous point).* Related to the above - Suunto only allows pairing one bluetooth heart rate sensor (I have three). It would be one thing if the OHR on the wrist worked well, but for me it did not. I typically use at least two external HR sensors - my chest strap causes bad chaffing in the very warm weather, and so I will wear a polar OH1 on my arm instead.* Sleep tracking didn't work for me, but then again I've never found a watch that was able to measure this for me.So for some people (ultrarunners come to mind), this is a watch worthy of consideration. Suunto really has produced a nice product. I think where they need to work is on the optical heart rate sensor, which is a generation or two behind both Polar and Garmin. If they fixed that, they would have a real winner, IMO.

Good watch doesn’t fit my wrist well
I have had numerous suunto watches in the past and they have all been great. This on has amazing functionality and a definite upgrade over my previous 9 baro. What isn’t so great is the watch case has some sharp corners on the bottom. I have a pronounced wrist bone and when wearing the watch it digs into this spot on my wrist. So much so that while biking it shakes enough it cut my skin. I’ve now had to stick some foam padding to my new watch. Kind of a bummer as my other watches did leave a bit of a red mark on my skin there it was never uncomfortable or would injure me.
