Quiet!
Great product. Flexible ways to install. Compact compared to some other fans. Three fan speeds to choose how much noise is generated. On the lowest (50 cfm) it's almost undetectable. Med (85 cfm) is very quiet. 100 is a bit noisier but still very quiet. Especially compared to those cheap fans at the hardware store.Even though the output is oval shaped you can directly connect 4 inch round hose to the oval opening. The oval just allows for mounting in a 2 x 4 wall.

A Quiet and Efficient Choice
The Panasonic FV-0510VS1 is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a quiet and energy-efficient bathroom ventilation fan. Its WhisperValue technology ensures minimal noise, making it perfect for bathrooms located near bedrooms or other quiet areas. The low-profile design allows for easy installation in standard 2x4 ceilings, although I recommend using a 4-inch vent hose for optimal performance. The fan's Energy Star certification guarantees efficient operation, helping to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills. Overall, the Panasonic FV-0510VS1 is a reliable and high-quality ventilation fan that provides both quiet performance and energy savings.

Requires attic access
This is a great fan and moves air very well with less noise than common fans that have a name starting with "B". A UL Listed fan was an absolute requirement. Lots of low profile fans on the market that do not have a safety certification. However, Panasonic is missing out on ceiling-side installation as a replacement fan. I was able to remove the fan and the section that holds the duct/electrical junction box from the housing. It would have been possible to reconnect the duct/electrical section once the housing was inserted from the ceiling side.....but the attachment point was misaligned by the thickness of the drywall, so I had to install from the attic side anyway. If the housing was 5/8" higher to offset the drywall thickness, the unit would still fit a 3-1/2" low profile space, but would be installed through the ceiling side rather than on the attic side. One review states they were able to install from the ceiling side, but the version I received would not work this way. Also, it would be better to provide a way to secure the fan housing from inside the room rather than the attic. The support arm provided is a challenge to install in tight spaces in an attic. I realize this would require retooling at the factory, but I would have selected a UL Listed low-profile fan that installed on the ceiling side over any others - if it was available. This one works nicely, but could be easier to install with some design changes.

Seems like the best option for limited depth
This is my first fan I've installed, so I didn't know what to expect, but I'm super happy. I put it vertical in the wall of a small-scale server closet in a bedroom to vent into the adjacent hallway (silly? yes. Awesome? Also yes).It says it can't be installed with the output facing down but I think that's because the 4 side mounting holes are keyhole shaped one way. There are two on the "bottom" opposite the output that seem adequate. It's working fine after I installed a fire break to hold the bulk of the weight. I'd be shocked if the bearings or whatever wore out as it's "upside down."Some are complaining that there's no stencil included. This thing seems to be designed to be placed BEFORE drywall which is unfortunate. It's a 10 inch opening but a 12 inch flange with the mounting holes that need to go into the STUDS directly, not through drywall. I placed it within an already built wall and just cut up some cardboard and sealed it into the seam. I supposed you could use.. you know.. duct tape.I also removed the screwed on support rail and tossed it. It's probably fine...UPDATE:I can't believe it's been 18 mo. This server closet gets a bit toasty and I have it on a thermostat. I'd say this thing is running about 70% of the time. It's been silent and working well this whole time. Vertical mounted and overused and still working!
