Affordable, usb provides easy connectivity, sound quality is great for my needs (zoom calls), plug and play, low noise.

I replaced a cheap USB condenser with the AT2040USB at a desktop that has a loud case fan and a mechanical keyboard. After a few weeks of Discord, game chat, and short voice recordings, this is the mic I actually leave plugged in. Setup is simple. USB-C into the PC, select it as the input in Windows, and it works. No driver pack and no companion app. In the box you get the mic, a mounting clamp, a USB-C to USB-A cable, and a USB-A to USB-C adapter. There is no desk stand or boom arm. Plan on buying an arm. The body is metal and heavy enough that a cheap plastic stand will feel undersized.Sound is the reason to buy it. It is a dynamic hypercardioid mic, so it wants you close to the front of the grille. Talk a few inches off-axis and the level drops fast. Stay in that sweet spot and the voice comes through warm and clear, with less room echo than a condenser in the same space. It does not add that extra “air” and sparkle some condenser USB mics have. For speech that is a plus. For singing or acoustic instruments it is the wrong tool.Noise rejection is the other big win. Keyboard clacks and PC fans are still there if you slam keys, but they sit much farther in the background than they did on my old mic. I still flip the low-cut switch when the desk picks up thumps. I do not need a noise-suppression plugin for normal chat.Controls on the mic are useful. There is a headphone jack with zero-latency monitoring, a mix knob between your voice and computer audio, headphone volume, low-cut, and a touch mute with a blue/red ring. The mute works, but I would rather have a physical switch. Accidental taps happen if you grab the body to reposition it.Who this is for: one person talking at a desk, streaming, Discord, or voiceover, especially in a room that is not treated. Who should skip it: anyone who needs one mic for two people, instrument recording, or the brightest possible vocal tone. Also skip it if you expected a stand in the box.I would buy it again for this desk. It is not a studio endgame mic, but it is a clear step up from the usual USB condensers and it stays out of the way once it is on an arm.Recommended rating: 4 out of 5

Everyone has said how much better this mic sounds compared to 150 dollar headsets. Though they've said there's no difference between this dedicated mic and the audeze Maxwell with its dedicated mic. I use a mix of different headphones plugged into a dac/amp when gaming with this microphone. Easy to adjust but the dac/another built in is horrible. There's no bass whatsoever and that takes the life out of any audio. Not enough bass to balance the treble. I use with a PlayStation 5.

I wanted a quality dynamic mic sound without need for amplifier or digital interface. This mic does it all. Some experts don’t like middle pitch, but I can’t hear an off sound. Oh, and superior background rejection.

It's a great all-purpose mic. Use it for podcasts, music recording, or whatever.

I have to call them out as I see them. For a dynamic USB mic, the Audio-Technica AT2040USB Dynamic USB Microphone just kicks "hinds" big time! Sure, it is a bit bulky for traveling, but is it really when you consider all the gear you can easily leave behind because this is a .... wait for it .... wait for it .... is a USB mic! I am NOT going to bore you with technicalities. I am sure plenty of other reviewers will take care of this in spades. But what I can tell you is that the sound you get out of this, YES USB MIC, is quite rich hence pleasant without it sounding compressed or unnatural straight from your computer. :-)

This has been plugged in since the day I got it, and it has basically become my permanent microphone.My main reason for buying it was simple: I wanted to sound better during calls. It absolutely delivered. Compared with my webcam, MacBook, iPhone, and other built-in microphones I've used, the difference is very noticeable. My voice just sounds much better and more professional. I've owned quite a few Audio-Technica products over the years, and this is another one I'm very happy with.I also really like the status light. It's subtle and positioned on the side instead of having a huge illuminated ring around the microphone. At a glance, I can tell whether the mic is live or muted, which is very useful during calls.I initially wasn't sure I would like the touch-sensitive mute button because I thought it might be easy to trigger accidentally. In practice, that hasn't been a problem. It is slightly recessed, so I don't accidentally touch it, and I'm actually glad it isn't a physical button with a heavy click. Muting and unmuting it regularly feels quick and unobtrusive.For what I bought it for, this has been an outright good buy.

Excellent clean sound, picks up on the low frequencies with accuracy and resolve. Looks sleek enough on the Audio-Technica mic stand. Capacitive touch button is a cool feature that has come in handy a few times. Short of going full XLR, this gives a significant boost in quality as a daily driver for use with OBS, zoom and teams. Often told it sounds podcast quality.
