Easy solution
Inexpensive replacement. We hadn't been able to read the numbers on our old knob for years, always guessed at the temp. It doesn't quite "push in" all the way on our stove, but works fine. Only issue we had was that the first one melted, but the seller sent us a new one so all good. It melted because we left the oven door cracked open for a couple hours to take the chill off in the house, admittedly not normal use (though the OEM knob didn't melt).

It works in a way. It melted on the side. It's like crook it! :-( but I still kept it at least I can read the numbers. It's plastic feeling. Not very sturdy but like I say it helps in a way.
