Sagem CompactFlash to MS Pro/MS/MMC/SM/SD/xD Card Adapter - Turn your CF Type I Card Slot into a 6-in-1 Card Reader!

My new photo printer didn't have an xD card slot (since xD is on it's way out). I needed to buy an adapter to make it fit into the much larger CF slot. I really had to hunt around before I found this one on Amazon. Although the description was a little fuzzy on specifics I went ahead and bought it anyway. When it arrived I was surprised that it was much larger and substantial than the picture conveyed. Anyway it was DUH simple to use but as always you need to be careful messing up your card and this adapter.I store and use my stuff carefully. This product is sturdy and well worth the $18 it cost.I bought other stuff along with it so I got free shipping! It's better than buying a new camera! And as usual Amazon comes through again! :)

I wonder if this product is any longer being manufactured. It as terrifically difficult to find at any price. However, in spite of being rather large and clunky, it does work to make up to at least 2GB xD cards readable on a Canon PIXMA MG8220 printer, which is the reason I bought it. It does NOT work with high-capacity (e.g., 16GB) SD cards (I have no smaller capacity SD cards to try), but since the MG8220 has a "native" slot for those, this isn't an issue.Apparently no one is currently making xD to CF card adapters. I was able to find a couple of the old Olympus and Fujifilm style cards in ancient dealer stock, but the prices asked for those were exorbitant ($53 plus shipping -- and I paid only $120 for he printer with FREE shipping).

I could easily convert the older style memory cards into the newer smaller style. Works perfectly.

There were two problems using this with a modern iMac desktop. First, Compact Flash cards won’t mount on a Mac. When I inserted the CF end of the Sagem into my reader, the light on the reader lit up indicating the CF end of the adapter had made the connection. The iMac didn’t recognize the external drive. To test it I put a regular CF into reader to the same effect. Then I put an SD card into the reader instead and the iMac instantly recognized the external drive.Problem Two: The light on the Sagem never lit up indicating the SM memory card wasn’t being read. This may or may not be a showstopper, but I’ll never know because all that was shipped to me was the adapter in a plastic bag. No instructions or other type of manual explaining the operation of the unit.Conclusion: it may or may not work for you, but if you have an iMac with up to date OS you can forget this as a possible solution to retrieve your photos stored on an SM card.
