Awesome companion for your home espresso setup
Super solid knockbox here. Beautiful build quality, gorgeous hardwood construction. Knockbox works and is easy to clean. I bought this for my Breville Barista Express, and while that machine has a different size portafilter than this box is designed for, it still serves very well and fits my baskets and portafilters just fine. If you’re in that camp, I found that using the snap-on tamping collar that comes with the machine makes using this as a tamping station much easier. YMMV. Either way, this knockbox is affordable, functional, and beautiful enough to give as a gift. Highly reccommended.

Nice knock box
This is a well-made hardwood knock box for the price. Everything fits as it should except my portofilter does not sit flush in the tamping station. the notch for the handle is not cut deep enough and it wobbles/ has caused me to have some uneven tamps. I really wish this had an adjustable leveler for this purpose like most similar products have. I’m a woodworker and will probably add one at some point, but i wish this was a little better designed. For the price i am quite happy with it.

Both functional and good-looking, this is a well-built, nicely-featured knock box
The first thing I noticed when I removed this knock box from the package is how substantial it feels. It is a solid, heavy piece. This is not a hollow shell, but solid wood. It functions as substantially as it feels as well. The second thing I noticed is how good it looks. I would call the wood working and finish at least as good as the custom Amish furniture we have. And, if you have ever been to an Amish furniture store, then you know what the finish smells like. Real wood with good finish on it. I'm not a botanist, so I can't verify the claim that it's genuine walnut, but it is definitely a dense wood with an attractive grain to it, and I have no reason to doubt that it is genuine walnut. It has rubber feet that keep it from scooting around on the counter surface while it's being used, the portafilter holder works well with the portafilter from the Flair 58, which is an open bottom portafilter (I can't speak for the fit of a portafilter with distribution channels), and there are shallow receptacles for a distribution tool and a tamper. I use a pin style distribution tool, and there is no particular place to store that, but there is a drawer on the side that holds a puck screen (and looks like there would be room for 2 of them if I had a second one.The metal box has a knock bar that is rubber coated (silicone, I presume) and it works well. It also serves as a handle to remove the grounds container for cleaning it out which is easy to do. It has a lot of capacity. It holds far more grounds that I could ever make or drink at home in a day or a week (and still survive). I would imagine that even with company coming over and making a dozen or more shots, there would still be plenty of room for more grounds.I would guess that after a while of using it, the finish and wood surface around the portafilter holder will become scratched and dented. In my limited use so far, I have been careful and it has not scratched or dented yet. It does take up a fair amount of counter and/or storage space, so take that into account.I ordered this one for myself, but it comes nicely packaged in an attractive box and would make an excellent gift for any espresso lovers on your list. There is no brand name or logo identification on either the product itself, or the box it comes in so nobody will know how little you spent to get such a nice knock box!!

Also has a tiny, but handy, drawer to store a few puck filters!
This is a relatively compact, walnut tamping station that has a knock-box, three cut-out slots (that can hold a distributor, a tamper, and a portafilter), and, a very special drawer that can hold a number of puck filters for your portafilter. The slots for the distributor and the tamper would have benefitted from having a rubber disk line the bottom of each hole, though. When an accessory is dropped into its designated spot, your tool face wouldn't hit any wood. (Not that any damage to your metal tools would be caused by the wood, anyway.)The knock-box can be removed, and easily emptied of its used grinds at any time; it can hold 20 or more pucks. Made of painted stainless steel, it can be quickly rinsed clean. The solid knock-bar itself is made of stainless steel, and has a thick rubber coating to dampen noise. The rubber cover is even decorated with an embossed coffee bean design, for a nice, little visual accent. The product I received had some accidental splotches of dark varnish or paint, spotting some of the lighter-colored wood (birch?) that was used. And, although the over-all varnishing was acceptable, it wasn't as smooth as I expected; it was as though no sanding had been done between varnish coatings (which is a necessary step in producing a REALLY nice finish). It's only a relatively minor ding in this review, on an otherwise very well-made product; but, still disappointing to note. The small, shallow drawer in the midsection of this product can easily hold at least 4 to 6 puck screens, especially since screens are only 0.2mm to 1.7mm thick.I would like to have seen a taller drawer with even MORE depth, though. Other accessories could also be stored there; such as a dosing funnel, espresso grinder brush, etc. Maybe, even make the drawer deep enough to store an 18g-22g portafilter basket in it!Add another drawer at the very bottom, and this might become the PERFECT compact tamping station for a lot of people.

Amazing Craftsmanship but with a faulty portafilter design
The wood craftsmanship of this item is outstanding and just that deserves a 5 star. The reason, I have deducted 3 stars is because your portafilter will wobble as there is no cushion to support the handle when you position it on the hole. I have tried both the original 58mm from my gaggia classic evo pro and the 58mm bottomless portafilter from coosigar. They both wobble ......Since I have made my decision to make it work, I'll attempt to get some transparent rubber pads or create a mold on my own.Beware that most of the molds out there are having similar issues.Update 07/27/2024 - Sadly, I end up returning this as my attempt to stabilize the portafilter was unsuccessful.
