Author Needs to Get History Right
This is an okay book that summarizes — at a high level — LP history well enough, but if your going to call your book the “Definitive History” guide, you need to get your history right. For example, the author states Jimmy Page was the recording engineer for Clapton’s famous “Beano” session; he wasn’t, it was Mike Ross. The author also states Boston’s first album came out in ‘81; it actually came out in ‘76. Also, as I recall, there is only one picture and a single paragraph mention the the Melody Maker (precursor to 60 SG) and no mention of its long lasting popularity (Joan Jett, Leslie West, Billy Joe Armstrong). On the plus side there is some info in this book that I’ve never found anywhere else (other than the web), and many of the LP pictures are wonderful to look at (even if some of the book text is difficult to read due to the text/background color contrast). So my recommendation is, if you can find this book used for a decent price, go for it. If you buy it new and know a bit about LP history, you might be disappointed as this book (for me) definitely is not “The Definitive Guide of Rock’s Greatest Guitar.”

Disappointing
Like a hundred fawning groupies were writing about their favorite guitar heroes, with superficial coverage of the guitars. Reads like an advertising copywriter wrote this as an ad for the greatness of Gibson, with so many double entendre verbal wheelies you start to squirm.

Nice content but poor paper quality kills the fun
If you buy this book, you probably already own a les Paul or two and a few les Paul books too, the famous « beauty of the burst » , perhaps some of the burst believer series, « sunburst how the Gibson les Paul became a legendary guitar », or the les Paul book by Tony bacon.... The book has lots of interesting informations about this wonderful guitar but the real let down here is the poor quality of the book itself. The paper’s quality is just bad, there are hundreds of photos and most of them look terrible, this really makes it an unpleasant read. Gloss photos would have been so much better. Also the book itself is falling apart after a few reads, but it may only be my copy. For 18€, it’s fine, just not as good as the other ones mentioned before.
