Q: What the difference is vs Esee 4 ?

Ontario’s TAK and RAT knives were designed by Jeff Randall, owner of ESEE Knives and Randall Adventure Training (RAT). Ontario RATs are basically half price ESEE knives with a glass breaker instead of a rounded pommel and ESEE’s no questions warranty. The TAK 1 is about a quarter inch longer and 3 or 4 ounces heavier than the ESEE 4. That said, they’ve still got the same 1095 steel, same thickness at the spine, same grind, similar coating, similar heat treatment, ect... So the TAK 1 is not exactly an ESEE 4, but its close enough that they probably won’t make an “Ontario RAT 4.” Hope that answered your question.

overall length is 10" with a blade length of 4 3/4" and an actual cutting edge of 4 1/2".

Q: How thick is the blade?

The knife is made from 3/16" stock and is then coated with a rough textured paint which puts its overall thickness right at 0.1905". The handle if full 3/16" and as the hollow-ground blade bevel begins, it is 0.165" and naturally works it's way down to the cutting edge as well as down the spine to the blade point. This is a very good knife, heavy and very well constructed.
