Amazing - Better than Black to black
I bought back to black about 8 months ago and absoluetly loved that album. Prior to this I had heard all the talk about Amy's brilliance but had been quite skeptical, however even for the skeptic that I am Amy's voice is so great it demands attention. I then heard rehab and I liked that, I next heard You know i'm no good and though that's good too, finally I heard tears dry on their own and thought it was about time I bought Amy's album which I was totally blown away by. I was toying with the idea of getting frank but was worried that I wouldnt like it as it might not live up to back to black and boy was I wrong in my opinion it is even better than Black to Black and just highlights even further what a great talent Amy is and how versatile she is. The album is beautiful and I can't honestly say there is a single track on here that I dont like they are all great, however the standout tracks are, In my bed, Take the box, Sent me flying and Mr magic. Amy Winehouse is an amazing talent I cant wait for the next album.

Good overall sound quality with warmth and detail
Overall a reasonable recording which has detail and warmth. Cannot help feel that her voice has been restricted on occasion. A reasonable recording which will repay further listening. I have not set out to write reviews of the music content as “beauty is in the ears of the listener”. These reviews are about the quality (or not) of the recorded sound. To read about how the reviews are done please see my profile. • Clarity – ok good dynamic range, instruments are audible, separate and distinct • Channel separation - good • Channel balance – very “centre” orientated but given the nature of the vocals works well • Sound Stage – not bad, very rich and broad, like a small club stage with the vocalist and some instruments taking centre stage • Distortion – non audible • Compression – non audible, good dynamic range, recording has life and transparency • Atmosphere – reasonable, not the most atmospheric recording, edges towards a small club rather than a studio which gives the recording a warm intimate feel • Bass – low frequencies – reasonable, drums are ok but a little soft. Bass guitar is not always very clear or well defined. The kick drum is reasonable but again “soft” so as not to overwhelm the vocals • Treble – high frequencies – piano is reasonable, electric guitar has a clear specific tone and sound • Vocals – good range but feels as if they have been limited on occasion which tends to loose the power of her voice As a general rule of thumb recordings from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s are nearly always better on the original vinyl. Remasters often fail to please as it’s just not possible to make a silk purse from a sows ear, i.e. the original recording lacks the necessary detail to be processed digitally and show an audible improvement. Indeed such processing can make the sound worse. Modern recordings which have been processed digitally from start to finish can be as good as vinyl. CD’s are often unfairly criticised for being poor quality. This is not the case, it is the original recording or the process which is to blame. Modern “remasters” can both enhance and degrade a recording. The statement GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) is the limiting factor. Ignore this at your cost.

Love Amy
The first time l heard You Sent Me Flying on the radio when it came out, l knew l had to find out who she was and where l could buy it. So this years purchase is a back up, so good l bought it twice. I love Amy’s style and unexpected tracks like Frank, Cherry, Take the Box, In My Bed. I miss Amy and wonder what she would have blessed us with in her 30’s and 40’s. This album is a must have.

Amy - a musical talent sadly lost.
What a talented girl. I recently watched a documentary on Amy's rise to success and was touched by it. So sad she wasn't strong enough to fight the drug/drink addiction. Her writing is above and beyond someone of her years. I believe she was only 18 when she wrote 'Frank'. This is a great CD and clearly shows her early talent. An eclectic mix of jazzy, bluesey and a touch of reggae style. Amy, I am so sorry for pre-judgeing you before I had heard your music. You didn't get to fulfill your potential but you have left some great music for us to enjoy.
