Yes, this is the most expensive filter you can buy for this type of fridge BUT it is also the best one, hands down. Great taste, makes your water very soft. Trusted brand, made in USA, filters out the most contaminants as far as I can tell, and the flow rate is good.Think about how much water you drink. I use filtered water for cooking, too. Spending a little extra for a water filter, especially if that breaks down to $20-30 over the course of a year is really no-brainer if that means better water quality.I switch filters more often than every 6 months, probably around 3x per year as the flow rate goes down over time and dispensing becomes too slow. But that's the same for all the other filters I've tried.

It was difficult to figure out the appropriate filter size, even with the refrigerator model number

This is the filter recommend be Kitchen Aid and several other manufacturers. We change it out every six months and that appears to be the proper time frame.

KitchenAid KRFC300ESS. Works like a charm. Only thing is the price, but they sort of got us over the barrel. At least kiss me first.
