It worked fine. But it didnt come with screws also its very difficult to screw on bricks. So I just used exterior cauck to hold it in place. Also people commented it doesnt go into exisitng 6in dia opening but its not true. Mine wend very easy as there is some small clearance in the hole. You just have fiddle around to get into. By the way this thing is not available any near by stores like homedepot lowes etc. Glad I found it in Amazon

No more birds!
We moved into a new construction home a little over a year ago and the builders originally just put a regular vent cover (with no bird guard) for our range / microwave exhaust. Well, we had some birds trying to make a home in the vent and this was the answer. The bird guard has held up well so far and was easy to install seeing that the existing vent cover was also a Deflecto so the holes lined up, etc.

Replaced a Deflecto vent 10 years old
This replaced a Deflecto vent on our Humidex unit that had fallen apart. Outside size is perfect, 6" vent was good, but our original did not have a bird guard, it had a screen. Had to do some modification since our vent goes inside the opening and the bird guard was an issue, did some cutting and taping and it works perfectly. Would do 5 stars but the plastic is on the thin side, not as good as the original. But I will order a second one for a spare.

Did the job
After many trips to Ace Hardware, Lowes, and Home Depot I was unable to find the exact size of vent cover with a bird guard on it that I needed. Thankfully, you guys had this one available online and it fit perfectly! Product was super simple to install. I didn't have any problems attaching my 6 inch pipe onto this product like others have mentioned, but I could see where depending on your set up it could be difficult. It would be nice if the round circle on the back stuck out maybe just a bit further but the current design did NOT cause any problems in my installation. The product didn't come with any directions, but isn't a super complex job. Attach the pipe, zip some stainless screws into each corner, and caulk around the product. I wouldn't recommend using a drill/impact driver as the product is only plastic. I was afraid of cracking product by over tightening screws so I just used a hand screwdriver.I would describe myself as a moderate DIYer.

Perfect for 6" downdraft outside vent
I have a downdraft vent installed on my kitchen island. My contractor vented it outside but covered the outlet with an interior standard non-closing metal vent cover. Last winter the cold air was pouring into the house through the unclosed vent and the contractor promised to fix the problem. I was still waiting when I did my research and found the Deflecto 6" vent cover. It works perfectly after an easy install. I used four 2" flat head screws and to fill gaps between the vent cover and the siding I used caulk that matches my siding. The cover is flush with the wall and the louvers open and close smoothly, even at the lowest fan speed. I will have a warm kitchen this year. A great product for any exterior 6" wall vent.

Not what we needed
We had installed a new stovetop with down draft exhaust, and this was going to be used as cover for the external venting. However, after looking over the situation, this would not work for us as we have heavy snows that drift around that area and would block air flow if not constantly maintained and was not sturdy enough to hold up to the elements in our climate. So we decided we would return it, but the return costs were too prohibitive The original shipping and "handling" costs for an $18 item that weighed a few ounces was $21 which was outrageous to start, all they did was stick it in a padded manila envelope. Return costs were almost more than the item itself, so we will keep it for something, but will not have business with this vendor again due to the exorbitant handling costs. Shameful, really. Buyer beware, our own stupid fault, but needed something right away. Thanks but no thanks Fly Bye.

Good product, does the job.
Good product, does the job. A little pricey for my taste, but good nonetheless. I appreciate the added protection inside the flaps. Does NOT come with the 4 screws for mounting.

Be Ready to Modify to Fit
Good vent cover. Not at all easy to install as the collar on the back of the vent is the same diameter as my 6" vent pipe. Several others have noted this issue. I had to significantly bevel the collar's outer edge to a diameter that I could force inside the 6" vent pipe. The inside diameter of the vent collar was likewise too small to fit over the 6" pipe. The manufacturer needs to address this issue and make the vent cover collar fit the OD or the ID of a 6" vent pipe because as it is now it does not fit either one. I did like the bird guard part of this vent because we have a sky full of house hunting starlings.
