Goodnight, Little Doctor: An Enchanting Bedtime Story About Doctoring (Medical School for Kids)

This book is a true masterpiece in every way. The illustrations are some of the most gorgeous I have ever encountered in a children’s book, and the themes in this book are simple yet inspiring. I especially love the emphasis of diversity and inclusion in this book, with representation of physicians of color and female physicians throughout the book. What impresses me most is the way the authors managed to include several powerful messages about doctoring within the playful tone and effortless rhymes of a beautiful children’s picture book (for example, the notion that medical errors must be disclosed to patients, and that respect and kindness are sometimes more important than always being right). Lastly, my daughter, who is not even one yet and certainly doesn’t understand any of these nuanced messages, absolutely loves this book (probably because of its beautiful two-page spreads and vibrant colors). So it’s perfect for babies, toddlers, and children of all ages!

This is hands down one of the best books I’ve ever read to my kids. It’s gorgeous, fun to read (love the rhymes!), and has an incredibly inspiring message. My kids love the vibrant and colorful illustrations, which are stunning, and my wife and I love that this book teaches kids about the importance of honesty, humility, and integrity (which are truly relevant to anyone, not just doctors). The book looksand reads like most other children’s books, but it’s so much more. It’s filled with profound lessons about doctoring, such as the importance of treating patients as people (not just a list of symptoms) and striving to heal (not just cure) their illnesses. Definitely a must-have for any bedtime routine!

My husband and I love this book!! We are both physicians and are expecting our first child in a few months. We realize that our kiddo won’t fully appreciate this gem of a book for a few more years, but we will enjoy it ourselves in the meantime. It is a delightful and heartwarming read for all doctors, and future doctors to be.

Gifting this to a friend's kid but couldn't help but look through the book myself. The colors are so vibrant! I took these photos on the evening with low light, and the colors still came through. The rhyme and the message in the book are also charming, and I can't wait to read this to my friend's kiddo!

Both my husband and I are physicians, and I thought this book was so helpful in getting our kids to develop a better understanding of what we do and why we do what we do. It can be challenging for us to explain and kids to understand the role of a physician. I knew when I was a kid I didn’t know any of this. It is great as a bedtime story and I love the rhyming which just makes it easier to read.
