This little 3-ring binder looks like an old, weathered leather notebook and that's exactly what I wanted. The cover material (NOT real leather) is flexible and feels good in the hand, and has been tough enough for me to jam the notebook into a backpack or tote bag with no visible damage. The rings open & close easily but stay shut when they're supposed to, and standard A6 size paper fits perfectly. I have a fat fountain pen stuck into the slot on the side flap but the notebook still closes nicely and stays closed when I wrap the leather thong around it. I ended up removing the little metal anchor from one end of the leather thong (it kept getting in my way) by untying the thong, then re-tying it once the anchor slipped off; I've left the ship's wheel in place because it helps keep the notebook closed.The only complaint I have so far at that the cover is still new just stiff enough to hold its shape, so it tends to curl up & get in the way when I'm trying to write; a little gentle reverse folding is all that I usually need, and I expect this (minor) problem to ease as the cover ages & becomes even more supple. The only other caveat is a problem common to every ring binder I've ever owned of any size: the page at the very back of the book often gets pulled askew, but so far only one page has actually pulled completely loose. If you're looking for a small, easily refillable notebook with the look of an old-style classic leather-bound journal, this product fits the bill!ADDENDUM/UPDATE: I have no idea why I said this is a 3-ring binder, aside from the fact that I was arguing with a large 3-ring that had popped open just before writing my review. This journal is, of course, a SIX-ring binder (2 sets of 3 each). The rest of my review stands as originally written. Sorry for the confusion!

I ordered this as a gift to cheer up a friend who loves sketching during hikes and had lost her favorite hike-sketchbook recently. It was a plus that she is a big fan of Harry Potter - this journal looks a little like Tom Riddle's diary! Needless to say, she loved it!✓ Great quality at a very reasonable price.✓ Obviously not original leather but has a very authentic feel to it!✓ Pages are not pure white but rather off white. While my friend loved this antique feel (she loves sketching on different materials); if you are looking to buy this for a person who is very specific about sketching on plain white paper, this product isn't for you!✓ Binder type journal. This means you can add more pages to this!✓ The wrapping threads, anchor bookmark and star were all of good quality and were extremely cute.✓ Makes a good gift! Especially for writers, artists, antique lovers and Harry Potter fans ( PS. Combine this with a quill and ink bottle, they are bound to fall head over heels! ).✓ The compass engraving in the front was very well detailed!My review: An excellent product at a very reasonable price. I have many journals and diaries. As a writer, I still love to put pen to paper rather than type all of the time and enjoy different types of journals and notebooks. This one is cute. It doesn't look like real leather to me nor does it feel like it. It's thin and a bit stiff. But that's fine. It still looks cute and the nautical styling is fun. I got this in dark brown. The pages are blank and a kind of cream/yellow color. They're thick and look a bit vintage. I am not a fan usually of unlined paper because I can't write straight but I bought this for sketches, scribbles, and just for fun. I like that I can buy refills and have. I bought a refill of lined paper although I also purchased a similar journal with lined paper in it. I think I paid around $7.99 for this small but ample journal and I am satisfied with it. It looks just as pictured and is compact enough to carry around with me if I want to but large enough that I can actually use it for more than just writing a couple of lines per page. Definitely a good value and I probably will pick up another color if the price remains low.
