Illustrated Stories from Around The World (Illustrated Story Collections)

Brilliant book!
First at all - it's not a big A4 book as I imagined. It's a small but fat book. That was a little disappointment but insignificant. Except that the book is great. 10 stories - a good selection from around the world (India, Greece, Russia, England etc). My kids (5 and 6 year old) are loving it. Easy language, beautiful pictures and not too much text - just what you need for a bed time story. Recommended.

Lovely stories
A lovely selection of stories which are a little bit different to the usual fairy tales. The book is a bit smaller than expected (A5 size) but it has a lovely padded cover and beautiful illustrations which catch the child's attention. The stories are short with a couple of lines on each page so ideal for reading to a small child and for the child to start reading themselves when they are old enough.

Cheaper than waterstones
This is a gift and from the looks of it looks like a good bedtime story book. I have bought for my own child a usbourne book in the past and they are pricey from Waterston so this is a bargain.

Lovely stories from different countries
I bought this for a Rainbows badge my daughter was working on. The book is made up of stories from different countries. My daughter enjoyed reading them all.

Visually and verbally engaging on each page
Great stories, great illustrations on each page and not too much text. Sometimes male character heavy, as with most children's books.

Beautiful books for kids
I bought several of the Usborne books with collections of various stories, and they really are wonderful. Some have more illustrations, others fewer. But all are beautiful. The simple and yet engaging way they retell these great stories is also perfect for younger kids. Mine is 5.5, but these would easily have worked a year ago and they can be read for several years to come. They use not so simple language but perfect for first/early readers at the same time. So I cannot say enough about how good and on point they are.

My child loves reading, thanks to this book
I purchased this book, along with several other Usborne illustrated books, for the purpose of homeschooling my 7 year-old after schools closed as a result of Covid-19. My daughter is in 2nd grade French Immersion, and has ADHD. She has been struggling with reading and writing in English (her mother tongue) as her classes are exclusively in French at this stage. I am a huge fan of Usborne publications, and this book is one of my favourites. I had hoped to whet my daughter’s appetite for literature with the illustrated Usborne books, and this book was the perfect catalyst. She has read the entire book to me, which has resulted in a well-deserved sense of pride at her accomplishment. The stories are engaging, and the illustrations are absolutely fantastic: colourful and well-suited to each story. Also, there is just the right amount of text per page so it does not overwhelm the child. My daughter is most likely on the younger side in terms of reading level for her grade and age, so I would say this book is appropriate for ages 6 and up, or grade 1 and above, and is perfect for the young reader, Immersion or ESL student. We refer to this book as the Baba Yaga book, as that particular story was her first favourite of this book, although there have been many subsequent favourites following our reading of that story... it seems each new story she reads becomes her new favourite. I cannot rave enough about this book; it completely surpassed my expectations and has sparked a genuine interest in literature for our daughter. What more does one need to say!For reference, the other books I purchased were the following (all Usborne publications):Illustrated Stories from Shakespeare- Excellent for this same age group; only slightly more challenging for the child to read than the Illustrated Stories from Around the World. Lots of illustrations, and beautifully adapted to children.Illustrated Ballet Stories: very few illustrations, and a more challenging read (grade 3 or higher). At first glance, my daughter was disappointed with the lack of illustrations (even I find “Illustrated” ballet stories to be a bit of a stretch); however, she enjoys the stories when read to her.Illustrated Myths from Around the World: interesting stories with gorgeous, yet considerably fewer illustrations. A higher reading level, perhaps grade 4 and higher, with quite a bit of text per page.Illustrated Stories from the Greek Myths: illustrations are vivid and plentiful, with a great selection of stories. Reading level more suited to grades 3 and up, and the content of some stories (beginning of the 12 tasks of Heracles) a bit gritty for a young child. But my daughter loves it, and it has been our bedtime reading for the past week.I also purchased the Illustrated Arabian Nights, but we have not yet read it. Fewer illustrations in the book, and more text per page. Looking forward to reading it, though! For our Little One, I love the Usborne sound books (especially the Woodland and Farm sound books) and the First Nursery Rhymes book. The math activity books (Addition/Subtraction, Fractions, Telling Time and Multiplication/Division) are excellent for a grade school child. The Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia is phenomenal. My daughter also devoured two books from the Young Reader’s collection: The Burglar’s Breakfast and Stories of Gnomes and Goblins, both fantastic and fun reads. We look forward to discovering more from this collection, as our daughter seems to prefer these books over graphic novels. She also loves the Heidi Heckelbeck books, as a final suggestion.I hope my long-winded review is helpful:)Thank you, Usborne!

C’est ok
Belles illustrations, livre robuste.

Great book for young children of all backgrounds
I'm a huge fan of Usborne books. This one is no exception. Both my five year old girl and my seven year old boy like the stories in this book. It can be hard to find a book that appeals to both genders and both ages, but this one does the trick. My seven year old can read it easily on his own, so it won't be a reading challenge for that age range or higher. Seven years old is just right for self reading of this book. Yet, my son finds the stories interesting and engaging. I think an eight year old would as well, though the reading would be easy. This book is also very interesting for my five year old girl. I read the stories to her, and look forward to when she'll be able to read them on her own. I like the stories. They're different from the standard fare we usually see in kids' books. It's wonderful to see fables from other countries. Also, we are people of color, and it's refreshing to see so many stories with people of different hues. Many of the other "classic" stories, including those in the Usborne books, do not feature people of color. Seeing diversity in reading is just as important as diversity in life. All in all, a great book for young children of any background.
