A Year of Watercolour: A seasonal guide to botanical watercolour painting

This is the second book I have purchased by Harriet De Winton of de Winton Paper Co. It is a beautiful book filled with delightful narrative, detailed instructions, and beautiful paintings that span a year of seasons. She uses multiple step by step demonstrations for each painting.Her demonstrations are clear and concise and enable me to paint lovely renditions of her paintings. I love all of the foliage, florals, and natural elements found it the book. However, I particularly love the landscapes. These are new to this second de Winton watercolor book. (Her first book is equally wonderful. It is called Modern Botanicals. I strongly recommend it, too.)All this to say, I give this book my highest recommendation. I am a student artist, and I have found this book is a great tool in my artist's tool kit.One more recommendation, Harriett has a marvelous social media presence. You can paint with her on her dewintonpaperco youtube site. You can find her on Instragram and Patreon as well. She is a wonderful teacher. I have learned so very much from her. Easy to follow, step by step instructions for painting dozens of animals and plants, including how to execute the shapes, and even which paint colors to use.They are laid out by season, offering inspiration to go outdoors, find your local flora and fauna, and use her lessons to translate them to the page.

Such a beautiful book and so many fantastic tutorials. I love Harriet’s style and her gentle approach. You won’t be disappointed

I love this book. Harriet is a great teacher with a YouTube channel. She breaks everything down into bite size basics so it’s easy to follow along. I highly recommend her books.

I knew going in this book was a good fit for me but I also know how to draw and have been using watercolors for a very long time. I really liked her style which is what prompted me to get the book and I specifically chose this as it was broken down by seasons which made for a fun challenge for myself to follow the tutorials with the seasons. It’s a great grab and use when you need to be inspired but have no ideas lurking at the ready. It does give some standard tips at the beginning of the book which is great however some tutorials jump from simple shapes to full animal outlines. Now I know this is a watercolor book not a learn to draw book however this could be daunting for someone who goes in thinking this is a beginner book when It’s a bit more advanced. Let’s be honest its kind of a nice change for those of us who are not beginners because we want to see styles and new ideas not a teach me every step type of book. Thats why this was a hit for me personally. The images are great the book is high quality and the breakdown by season is a really nice flow.

I am new to watercolor painting, have carefully watched various UTube artists, and carefully purchased several books. This author has published 3 fantastic watercolor books. I am shocked at how well covered and detailed her instructions are....the subjects she has chosen are sssoooo inviting to try and create. Absolutely well written, detailed, and her end products are just amazing. Amazon offers 3 of her books, I highly recommend that you purchase the 3!!!!! Cannot give enough high praise to this talented artist and author. Do NOT hesitate to purchase her books. Please catch her on UTube, trust me, you will enjoy every lesson she creates. I wanted to LOVE this book, I have been painting for years, but had given it up, so I’m starting all over. I had thought there would be more guidance or at least how to this not already completed pictures. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it just definitely isn’t for a beginner is trying to learn and relearn.

What a great book! It is a terrific way to learn and to be inspired.
