I have had the petmate litter locker, different versions of the litter genie and the litter champ and this is by far the best. The petmate I have had many moons ago and you had to spin the wheel to lock the litter after each scoop which really didn’t work so well. Then I got the smaller litter genie which works but in order to change out the bags you had to put your hand on the same place where you put the litter getting litter residue on your hands. The litter champ was good in the fact you didn’t have to use your hands at all. It has a foot pedal that you use to push the door open and the scoop pushes down a lever and you drop the litter in. Only downfall there is when it opens the smell rolls out. With this bigger litter genie the lid stays up a lot better than my older version, you can keep the slide in place until you are done scooping and then can drop it all at once keeping the stink down and when you change the bag you flip the lid up and cut the bag so there is no touching the nasty litter residue. The downfall of this design I would say is when you flip the lid and take out the bag it is top heavy and wants to fall over when you are trying to tie the bag off to start a new one. But overall I really love this new design.

I’ve been using the Litter Genie XL+ Pail for a few weeks now, and it does a good job of controlling odors and making litter disposal more convenient. However, there’s a frustrating issue with the locker mechanism.Pros:✔ Effective Odor Control – The pail does a great job sealing in odors, keeping my home smelling fresh.✔ Easy to Use – The one-handed operation makes disposal quick and easy.✔ Large Capacity – The XL+ size is perfect for a multi-cat household, as I don’t have to empty it as often.✔ Includes Jumbo Refill – The included refill bag lasts a decent amount of time.Cons:➖ Locker Always Comes Loose – The locker mechanism that holds the lid closed is very flimsy and constantly comes loose, which is quite annoying.➖ Refills Are Expensive – While the pail is useful, the cost of replacement bags can add up quickly.Final Thoughts:While the odor control and ease of use make this system great, the locker issue is a major inconvenience. If that can be fixed, it would be a much more reliable product. I’m on the fence about recommending it because of this flaw.

This product is fantastic. Highly recommended. Contains odors and holds a lot. Bags are very sturdy and have not ripped on removal, holding a lot of weight.

LOVE. Great concept and easy to assemble. It holds a lot of waste for a two cat household. Will recommend for litter box cleaners.

So far so good for this larger version of the litter genie. Takes a little bit to get use to as I had the older ones for quite a while. Mine did not come with springs so I was happy to have read someone's review about the springs. I took my springs out from the older smaller ones and placed it in this one. The springs are needed otherwise the sliding latch will open after a little while. Not sure why they didn't include springs on this larger updated version as it's something that is needed! With the springs on it works exactly as my older ones, no smell, just perfect. So keep your old springs and place inside this one. Otherwise you will have to purchase some.

I’ve had the old version + original size of the Litter Genie for almost two years. When we grew to a 3-cat household, we decided to add the XL to the lineup. The design is sleeker, I liked how it looked. Automatic issue is an obvious one: When you fill this one up, the bag is pretty dang heavy. Makes the cleanout a bit dreadful. But you probably knew that one.The changed design is the issue. I’ve had the original design for almost 2 years, never had an issue with the mechanism. It’s pretty straightforward, and it works great. The new design is truly a downgrade. It feels cheaper in every way. And then our pull plate broke less than a month into owning the new one. I tried to work with it, fix it, but it was totally unusable about a week after that. The plastic that held it in place just snapped off, and to keep the plate in felt like you were jamming and breaking the whole container further. Now we opt to leave the plate out, but that really takes the away from the odor control aspect. I want to replace it, but it feels like SUCH a waste of plastic to just end up with a similar problem.So I can’t recommend it, but I understand why anyone is purchasing. It’s the most affordable and largest solution for efficient litter box waste that controls odor. Just wish they would hear the feedback of how cheap the product feels now compared to the former version.
