These ESP32 boards work extremely well with Home Assistant. I use them to build a dashboard for my Sprinter van, controlling 8 relays and monitoring temperature. The system is reliable, responsive, and very easy to install. Highly recommended.

Back in the day (2019) I had to solder up a voltage regulator, caps and a number of wires with a micro-controller on a breadboard for my application (running Christmas lights). I use the WROOM-32 wifi to manage the light strands using the dev board data pins and connecting the strands to a 12v power supply which also powers the dev board. I've bought 9 for this year's holiday lights using both WS2811 strands and WS2812B strands.

Looks like the pins on both my boards were bent when covering with foam protection. Not in shipping. The develop boards seem to work. You can program the chips from the board, but you need to plug the USB into the chip as the USB on the board seems to only power which is fine. The first couple times programming chip off the board you will need to press BOOT on chip when the dots on crossing the screen. While on the board one chip auto flashed without having to press BOOT. I got two boards from two batches with different markings in the WROOM chip, as you can see the one with smaller markings is also the one that I can't get to flash at all. Seems it might be a cloned chip. Not worth requesting a refund but will be cautious on reordering.

I've already purchased this twice, and I'll be purchasing several more in the future. Some people complain about the voltage, I just plug it in to a Alitove 5V 15A power supply and it runs like a dream. The dev board makes hooking up my servos a breeze.
