item looked identical to existing - but wiring harness plug didn't fit my 96 nissan pu. modiified to fit and it works but .....

It works.
It works. Both my grommet and pump failed. This fixed the problem with both. The original pump just had pigtails. No connector. This has a connector with male pins. I put female pins on the end of the wires from the car and connected them to the male pins on the pump, then wrapped the connector and wires with electrical tape. Check to see if it works before you wrap it. If you get the wire polarity reversed, as I did, it will not work. It worked fine after I switched the wires. I installed it into a 2000 Altima.
