I thought My old CLD-909 LD was done. The video was dropping out after a few minutes of play. So I traded up for a nice DVL-919. Nope. Turned out the analog video section of my old Onkyo TX-SR805 was failing. The HDMI inputs still work fine. So after long search this gizmo fixed the prob. Read complaints most of these convertors just stretch/distort to 16:9 & don't have the option to output 4:3. This solved the problem at a reasonable price. Video is not perfect but my new U8H does a good job of displaying the old format & the 7.1 THX sounds great.

This SVHS to HDMI converter supports 3 aspect ratios Full (stretch’s image to Full) Original (4x3) 3rd one, right in between the two. There is one button to press to switch From 1920x1080 to 720 A short press to go from one to the other A long press about 2 seconds to cycle through the Aspect ratios. The device is usb powered. I recommend using a PC And not electric so as not to overpower the device And possibly cause issues. You connect the SVHS to the output of the device you are using. (DVD or Laser Disc Player) Then you connect the HDMI out on the device to your TV or device that you will be watching the video on. Works beautifully right out of the box.

I had to unplug the S-Video Cable from the DVD Side of the VCR / DVD Combo Player to get the VHS Side to respond and then reinsert the S-Video Cable again. After that, both the DVD and the VCR worked as desired. I purchased two of these devices and had to do the same thing on both of my VCR / DVD Players to get them to work properly. Nice device to solve older technology connection problems with newer style 4K UHD Smart TV's.

I had a laserdisc player that had S-Video outputs that I needed to connect to a newer HDMI-Only TV set. This worked pretty good and gave some options for the conversions. However, the TV still letter-boxed the image and I couldn't figure out how to balance the picture size and image quality. This worked but I was left wondering if a higher end unit would have done a better job.

I bought this RCA to HDMI converter hoping to revive old VHS tapes, but the video quality is awful. At first, I thought my VCR or test tape was faulty, but after multiple tries, I realized the converter itself is the issue. The colors are washed out, and the top half of the screen has a noticeable red tint. On top of that, the device feels cheap and flimsy when you hold it. Unfortunately, it’s now just a useless piece of junk since I can’t use it for my project. Definitely wouldn’t recommend! The first picture is with the converter, and the second is without.
