Simon & Schuster 1999: Manchester United, the Treble and All That

What a year!
1998-1999 was likely the greatest year in Manchester United history as the team won the treble, in other words, the Premier League Championship, the FA Cup and, most importantly, the Champions League. Even an FC Bayern fan like me has to admire this achievement. 1999 by Matt Dickinson is an entertaining page turner about a magnificent team and an unforgettable year. And, I did learn a lot, both the good, the bad and the ugly.Sir Alex Ferguson is portrayed as a great motivator and interpersonal coach who, however, lacks the skills of a tactician and has a vindictive and bullying streak. Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham absolutely despised one another and did not get along at all. The two big leaders and alpha males in the team were Peter Schmeichel and Roy Keane, who seems to take lots of joy in intimidating his teammates. They didn't get along either. The most likeable team members appear to be Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.Anyhow, an entertaining read about a legendary team. Recommended especially for all Man United fans.

A finish to the best decade of English football
Like other reviewers, I picked it up and didn't want to put it down. The stories are great, the writing is unpretentious. I found myself heading to YouTube to refresh my memory of certain matches or moments described in the book.Kudos to Matt Dickinson, who allows the reader to fall back in love with that time, 90s football, and the club that defined it so generously, Manchester United.
