Indeed, you are correct. I would assume the 5" should refer to the width of the entire unit. I just measured the width of the entire Sansi installed, and it comes to approximately 61/2 inches and the entire Sense installed on the plate sticks out from the wall about 1". Hope this assists you.

Does this plate work with the ST75W?

I purchased the wall plate with ST75 and it worked fine, but I don’t know how close that is to the ST75W.

If I'm understanding your question and picturing your set up correctly, you can probably just get some drywall anchors and not worry about the junction box. The plate should cover the opening.

Does this plate work for the 1F86-344 ( classic 80 Series?

I don't think so. It has little pegs that the Sensi Touch clips onto, and I don't think other thermostats have the same slots for the pegs.
