Very easy to install and use
I had this installed in about 10 minutes, without reading the directions. Only had to look at the directions to figure out how to set my own code, which was also super easy. I have used Schlage locks in the past, and have been happy with them, but after reading reviews of the one manufactured in the last couple of years, I decided to go with this lock instead. It was cheaper, and so far I am very happy with my purchase. It looks great, works great, and was trivial to install.

works great. no need to even hit buttons to lock ...
works great. no need to even hit buttons to lock door. just simply twist the spinner in lock position. however you better have your code or you're locked out. also the install was super simple.. not bad for the price. was totally worth it.

Very happy, great for the price
I love this product. Instead of spending 100+ dollars on a door handle lock this is much better. It look me all of 5-10 minutes to install and it programs easier than any other lock I’ve had. I’m a big believer in defiant products and this is one of my favs

I would pass this one up
I purchased two of these when on sale at one of the big hardware stores over the 2017 holiday season. I wasn't thrilled about the fact this is not a motorized lock but for the $ it at least negated the need to carry keys. I thought.Install was easy, just like replacing any deadbolt, and coding it was also a breeze. That was about the end of the positive for this device. Here is the problem, the cam/clutch that engages the bolt is so weak that more than half the time it will not throw the bolt when you turn it. It worked fine for a number of times immediately after installing but quickly became problematic. It just clicks and spins and eventually, you have to reenter the code to try again or use the key. (And no, the deadbolt is not impeded in any way)Frustrated I took parts from the second lock and installed. Same result. Worked for a few days no issues and then began to not much of the time. This says a lot about the mechanicals of this lock and considering the repercussions should it fail altogether, I would stay away from this model. This is an important issue to be cognizant of as in the past I have had an electronic lock fail on me and of course did not have a key to open it on hand. Kicking in your own door is certainly not much fun and having to replace it afterward make buying a quality product for this use imperative. As for electronic locks in general I give the following tips all learned from experience/the hard way;#1 If you no longer carry keys around like me, Always keep a key for one of the locks to your home in your car or with a neighbor.#2 Always use top quality batteries and change out every few months.(The incident I had was due to failed batteries)#3 Do not mistake cheaper electronic interior locks/ "passlocks" for deadbolt ones. If its an entry door you want a deadbolt style. Along with the security issue these interior locks are also not weather rated and won't last in an exterior install.
