This calculus book is the BEST. For those who gave this book low scores
This calculus book is the BEST. For those who gave this book low scores, I would say that they should build up a better foundation of high school maths before using this book. However, the book itself also offers a nice review of the prerequisites. The Thomas' Calculus offers the most detailed explanation, proofs, and exercises. Sometimes it asks you to prove some of the theorems in the exercises (some without answers), yeah it could be a headache if you cannot figure it out, but you can still google it and read and learn to prove it. After all, I own a Chinese version of the book when I was in high school, but I still prefer the English one I bought in college. I bought 11th edition twice, because I left the first one in the U.S. when I left for Japan for grad study. Then I got another one shipped from U.S. to Japan. This book is the bible in the calculus world from my opinion.

Really good for when you are stuck on a problem...
I have used this solutions manual for nearly half the semester and it has been perfect. It assumes you know basic algebra so it will skip some steps when simplifying. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that in the section we are on now, the problems do not match the textbook. I bought the correct edition of the textbook so it should be the same but it isn't. Unfortunately, it is the sections where we are finding derivatives of trig functions. Not someplace you'd want to be left hanging. I haven't checked to see how much of the rest of the book is incorrect, however, so it may just be this one section. All in all, I'd recommend it.

good not great
For someone who dosent consider math an easy subject this book could have been written better, my biggest problem with the book is that it only gives the odd solutions, i can understand if it were a junior high math book, and they were preventing kids from just copying answers down, since this is a college level class anyone who would do that probably would be failing all the tests anyway. Also step by step directions would be nice too, on many of the problems the show two or three steps in one sequence and you're partially left to figure/guess what they did and how they did it. I compare this to several chemistry biology and physics Solutions manuals that give much better detail that is more easily understandable. All that being said, it was still helpful to have, and with a little extra effort it worked out to be a good buy for the price.

Helps get you started
If you need help on how to get a problem started, this is the book for you. However, if you have no clue what you are doing, I suggest you get a study partner or a tutor to really learn the material. Relying on this book TOO much can make it hard for you to remember how to solve a problem come test time. In summary, this book is worth it because Calculus is hard, and sometimes you just need a little help to get you moving in the right direction. Would recommend to any student not confident in mathematics.

Thumbs up.
Got me through three Calculus courses. Mostly completely straightforward. Paired with the Student Solutions manual, I would spent a few hours at the library each night doing practice problems. First I worked the examples in the explanation/examples. Then I would go over any examples my professor had done in class. I tried to replicate the results from each. When I started on the practice problems, I would first do it on my own, compare my answer to the answer in the solutions manual, and if I didn't have the correct answer, follow the solution to my error, and retry. I took Calculus as a required course but I still remember a lot of it now (5-6 years later) thanks to this book.

Disappointed With 11th Edition
I have no idea why the publishers of this book felt the need to update to the 11th edition. The organization of the topics in the 10th edition made more sense and was in line with the traditional breakdown of the three semester series of calculus classes. In particular, the section layout in the new edition may force a student who used the 10th edition in first semester calculus to repeat material if they had to switch books for second semester calculus, perhaps at the cost of other material.I suppose publishers have to make money, and the proliferation of used books impedes them from doing that. Hence, the publishers update the text for continued remuneration, hiding under the guise of improved learning. I certainly did not find this edition to be an improvement!Lastly, I'd like to caution the readers of this review against purchasing the "teacher's" or "instructor's" version of the 11th edition. Typically, these versions are evaluation copies that are not supposed to be resold. There may be changes to the text after the release of these versions unbeknown to the purchaser. It certainly seems like a lack of ethics for a seller to peddle these copies to the public, and it is definitely a case of buyer beware.
