UFO's success story began in London way back in 1969, when vocalist Phil Mogg, drummer Andy Parker, guitarist Mick Bolton and bassist Pete Way formed the group, borrowing the band name from a legendary London music club. The global breakthrough arrived when German guitarist, Michael Schenker, joined the fold in 1973, having left his band Scorpions to follow an offer by Phil Mogg and Pete Way. UFO released three consecutive rock classics with Schenker (Phenomenon (1974), Force It (1975) and No Heavy Pettin' (1976)), featuring classics like 'Doctor Doctor', 'Shoot, Shoot', and 'Rock Bottom'.The website is: http://www.ufo-music.info/

Top Class Album
This could maybe be my favourite UFO album. Although it has Doctor, Doctor and Rock Bottom on it, it tends to be more ballads with soaring guitars. As the transitions are so smooth, it provides a powerful impression which I like.

The beginning...........
After the early space rock false starts of UFO 1 and Flying, this is where it all really begins. Michael Schenker arrives and the song writing goes to another level, as the perennial Doctor Doctor and the brilliant Rock Bottom testify. I've had this on vinyl since it first came out and this CD edition is a welcome addition. Disc 1 is the original album, sounding as fresh as it ever did. Disc 2 is b sides, demos, songs that didn't make the album and some instrumental versions of songs. Eminently listenable, but probably not essential. Disc 3 is a first outing for an early Schenker era concert in the Electric Ballroom, Atlanta, USA in 1974. They are clearly playing as a four piece and it is interesting hearing a 19 year old (!!) Schenker without another guitarist or keyboards backing him up. Naturally, he is fabulous. A very worthwhile purchase indeed.

Incredible talent
Michael Schenker joins UFO and at just 19, he co-writes the vast majority of this album. To have written classics like Doctor Doctor and Rock Bottom at this age is truly stunning, let alone play them. These remasters are all very good, so far we've had this, Force It and Strangers In The Night. For a lot of people they are better than an original UK press, thicker heavier sound but never too dense. Decent DR as well. The studio albums come with bonus material and that makes them a must have in my book and all at a reasonable price. Grab these while you can.

An underrated classic
I have recently been playing catch-up on all the music I should have been into in the 70's but due to circumstances was not able to. UFO were a big gap in my knowledge, I had heard of them, remember reading articles in Sounds about them but never bought into them, my mistake, my loss.I was recommended "Phenomenon", "Force It" and "No Heavy Petting" by friends and I now have them all, good rockin' albums one and all, it is no good regretting that I did not get into them sooner, I have them now and I love them. Now to go out on a limb a little, everyone raves about "No Heavy Petting" stating it is the album that should have been but wasn't and can not understand why and that Phenomenon was the crude but gifted child showing it's potential. In my view (for what it's worth), I can see why NHP was not the success everyone thought it would be, it sort of reminds me of listenning to "Get Born" by Jet, you are spotting all the influences in the songs, it sort of sounds like something else you have heard and that kind of distracts from the otherwise good music. NHP just sounds a little like a British group trying to be American and sounds like other stuff by other people which is a shame, there is some good stuff on it."Phenomenon" however I see as less pretentious, being UFO's third album and first for Vertigo it showcased the amazing talent of young German guitarist Michael Schenker drafted in for the erant Mr. Marsden whilst on a German tour, and that was just a stroke of genius MS's guitar licks are just plain beautiful, and while it is easy to bang on about "Doctor Doctor" and "Rock Bottom", the album as a whole has a really good feel to it, they all seem to be enjoying playing this music and then when you get to the instrumental "Lipstick Traces", well, what can I say, an absolute guitar classic penned by Schenker it is just awesome. Also look out for the cover of "Built for Comfort", a wonderful reworking of a classic song.As good as UFO are, for my money they should have gone more bluesy, Phil Moggs voice seems to fit it, but what the hey, they produce good Brit Rock and you will not go far wrong buying their albums, yes "Phenomenon" is a signpost for greater things but do not underestimate it, it is a cracking album in it's own right.

simplesmente excelente
Já conhecia o som. Mas a edição me surpreendeu. Linda embalagem , vinis impecáveis, rock pesado maravilhoso. O Michael shenker é bárbaro na guitarra, combinou bem com o vocalista, lírico, áspero, um disco clássico do UFO. Vale a pena.

Expanded edition featuring live 1974 Atlanta concert excellent
No doubt about it UFO rules ! An instant classic the studio album Phenomenon deluxe vinyl edition now features a stunning crystal clear live bonus album from Atlanta 1974 with budding superstar guitar hero Michael Schenker. UFO really take off into the next stratosphere with Phenomenon. Note that this expanded edition differs substantially from the Back on Black label 2 LP set from few years back which featured bonus studio tracks on coloured vinyl. So face it UFO fans ya need both !
