These filter wrenches work great! I also have the smaller version of this - no problems with slipping.

Can’t beat these for being proudly made in USA and very affordable. Only part that could be a pain is the spring. But lisle offers these for cheap so not a deal breaker by any means. If you’ve ever dealt with an oil filter torqued to high heaven from Walmart or any other quick oil change place. This will get you out of that pinch and save your knuckles. I just wish I had this tool from lisle a week ago.

This wrench has a great design, and the large size works well on larger filters, like the one on many trucks (there is a smaller size tool for removing smaller filters). Its arms dig into the side of the existing filter, denting the filter as you turn it, so it is ONLY useful for removing filters. But since one typically only hand tightens a new filter, this isn't a problem. This tool uses a 3/8" drive. I used a drive extension, but had to put a small length of pipe over my 3/8" drive ratchet to give it enough torque.

If you have a newer vehicle, such as a newstyle Ford F-150 you cannot remove the oil filter by using any sort of band wrench that grips and turns from the side. These newer models and others with tight under hood spacing, do not allow side access, instead they have oil filters that must be gripped end on, like removing a bolt with a socket wrench. That is basically what this item allows you to do, grip the oil filter from the end with a rachet and remove it without crushing the filter, cutting off your hand, or breaking something. This is the best way to access these hard to get at filters. Only downside is you cannot put the new one on using this as it applies force in only one direction, but its not that hard to spin on a new filter by hand (usually). Cheers !! much better than the cheap plastic sockets that slip and refuse to grip the filter. I have been using this thing for many years, and after using everything out there this is the best thing for this application, and its pretty cheap too. I've managed to lose mine after years of use and am ordering another one.

I have filter in a tight access point. Really no way to get a wrench on it from the sides. This tool did the job. Last time I had to change the filter it was a bear. With this wrench it took less than a minute.

Obviously you'll need a 3/8" ratchet and possibly an extension, but beyond that this tool is perfect. Grabs onto oil filters better than any other tool, better than the three prong claw, better than pliers, better than a strap remover, even better than the same design of tool from fram. The coating Lisle uses will grip oil filters even when the filter is soaked in oil, the metal has no flex, and they gave the jaws plenty of surface area to grab with. Would recommend this over any other oil filter tool on the market for use with spin on filters. My only caution is to be very careful when removing from the packaging since they cover it in vacuum sealed plastic and somehow it wraps around the spring that retracts the claws, as a result I did stretch the spring a bit removing it from the packaging. However the tool is still usable and still performs better than anything else, even with a loose spring!

Solid construction and built to last. Grips filter beautifully. It just works. Probably the best filter removal tool in existence to date.

I had a stuck filter on my mercury outboard. I used the regular strap type wrench and the filter was starting to deform without budging. This wrench grips the filter tightly and works well in tight spaces. The filter was removed with no problem.
