Fast, smooth 4K streaming
I bought the Fire TV Stick 4K Max to replace my slow, older streaming device, and the difference is clear. Setup took about 10 minutes, apps open quickly, and 4K video looks sharp with almost no lag. The Wi-Fi 6 support helps a lot, and the voice remote makes finding shows easy. The home screen has quite a few ads, and it's a bit pricier than the basic model, but the speed makes it worth it. Great value overall, 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I should have bought this so long ago. Do not hesitate, get it.
If i knew the game changer this thing was, id have bought it as soon as it came out. I mean, the image is way sharper. It just processes so much better. And the remote, while it took me a few days for the damn programable buttons to stay programmed, its pretty swert. And i cant tell you how many times i lose my remote in my bed or around the room. I forget sometimes and start searching for it, and upon starting to get frustrared, id remember i can just ask alexa to find my remote and it starts beeping and to be honest, id be where i clearly looked too, so i might need glasses. On the meantime alexa saves the day, and i love bein able to see what im pressing instead of having to angle the remote so i can get light on the buttons. Now, we are talking more technology that ive ever been used to or could have asked for, so im currently dealing with an issue that wasnt an issue before. It suddently started and i havent been able to figure it out. When i turn my tv off with the max remote, both my fire tv and stick will shut off, first the tv and the still shortly after. I know cause you can still hear whatever waz playin on my echo speakers and then curs off, meanin its off. Well, now i cant get the stick to turn off, or ill get the stivk but not the tv. Its a nighmare. Im currently tellin alexa to turn the tv off, but that only shuts the stick, i used the original tv remote to just click it off. Imma get gemini to help me with that soon. But well worth it regarthless of my current situationship with the off dilema.

BUY ONE! The Amazon Fire Tv 4k Max is WAY BETTER than any Roku Device! BEST UPGRADE BABY!
Fire Tv Stick 4k Max is incredible!!! The picture quality and all of the features are is way better than on this Roku Streaming Player that I had purchased for over $70+ dollars and used before buying this one. In every way imaginable the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k Max exceeds and is extremely superior to Roku and any other streaming app device I have ever used. This is the best upgrade to my TV to date! I have connected it to my Amazon Alexa App & Amazon Echo Show 8, so the Artificial Intelligence intuitiveness and ease of use is absolutely phenomenal! I am very pleased and satisfied with this purchase. I use it for Hulu+Live Tv (best picture quality I have and a huge upgrade from the Roku Streaming Player I was using that was more than the double the price for this very affordable and exceptional Quad-Core processor 4k Max Fire Tv and no lag at all from my room!). Amazon does it again! Being the best and absolutely making a very high-quality product. I also use it for other apps as well such as Amazon Prime Video, Fire Tv Free Channels (These are very interesting free channels and I love that they have so many fascinating free channels on here in terms of current events like News, Business/Economy, Shopping/Spending Tips, Health & Fitness, Entertainment for all ages, lots of variety of shows, etc. that you will enjoy all for FREE!). I also have the NETFLIX app on here that I love to watch. Disney Plus because it comes free with my Hulu+Live Tv Bundle. The recommendations are intriguing and informative. The remote control is very easy to use. The Fire Tv 4k Max stick goes behind your tv, so you never actually see it and it doesn't cause a mess or need to be close to any receiver and the remote functions extraordinarily- again tremendously better than any Roku devices that I have ever used and our Family has used a lot of Roku in the past. I wish I would have made the switch to Amazon Fire Tv sooner, but it is better late than never! I only have experience with this Amazon Fire Tv Stick 4k Max and I strongly recommend it! This is definitely one of the easiest 5/5 ratings I've ever done. Videos on the Youtube app even look and sound better on this device! Trust me when I say the price is definitely worth all that you are getting with this new upgraded technology offered by Amazon Prime! I'm very happy that I took the risk and bought one, especially with Amazon Prime's amazing free return policy you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain with more quality, comfort and the best technology for your home entertainment experience! By the way, the modem I am connected to wirelessly with this Fire Tv 4k Max streaming device is over 20 feet away and the connection is absolutely the best with clear volume and I don't have to worry about a bunch long cables and streaming players being all over the place causing a mess anymore as this is a very high-quality and super-charged performing streaming player engineered by some of the best minds in the World! As you can tell, I am very grateful for it and wanted to share my experience with you, so you may optimize your daily watching and listening experiences to most advanced levels available right now as well. I recently bought my brother the newest Roku streaming player for over 70+ dollars USD before buying this one and now I wish I would have bought him this Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k Max because this Amazon one is definitely the better purchase. I bought this one because it was on sale and a good price as my Roku player stopped connecting with my modem in my room. Don't make the same mistake I did and purchase the wrong product with the bad Roku! You need to charge up your daily entertainment and make it the best in your neighborhood, city, country, globally and Go Super-Saiyan Goku!

It’s better than the other two fire sticks that Amazon sells.
Very nice fire stick. If you’re thinking of getting a fire stick, I recommend you just go ahead and buy this one. I have all three versions in different places in my house. I have the lite, for example, in my garage. This one is noticeably quicker and snappier. Also ambiance mode is nice. It’s also nice to have the smart home features right there. I can’t attest to the remote, though, since I use the better remote that the sell. EDIT: I'm so upset with this thing. It's been just under a year since we bought it (writing this August 2026, purchased September 2025). A week ago I was still praising this fire stick. Now out of nowhere and for seemingly no reason whatsoever, it has started crapping out on me. It randomly freezes up on me and won't do anything, forcing me to unplug the device and wait, before plugging it back in and trying again, only for it to freeze up again a few minutes later. The only thing I can find online that might help is to clear all the caches for the app that I use, which I've done, and it still keeps doing it. You're suppose to be able to hold the center button and the play button to force a restart, but even that doesn't work MOST of the time and the two times it DID work, it got stuck on the "Your Fire TV is turning off" message, and never actually did so. I have over half the storage space left, partially because I didn't have a ton of apps to begin with, and partially because I uninstalled a few hoping to resolve this issue. I checked for software updates but its up to date, so that's not it either.

Update-After initial frustration, a strong four, with room for improvement
ORIGINAL REVIEW For some background, we have been using Roku for over eight years on seven TVs with no issues whatsoever, and we subscribe to the majority of the available streaming services. We love the simplicity of the Roku interface for launching our streaming services and the fact that everything just works and works well. With the announcement that FOX is buying Roku, we started looking for alternatives and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max seemed like the best option, especially given that we are heavily invested in the Alexa and Ring ecosystems. We bought one Fire TV Stick 4K Max, with plans to buy six more, along with the Alexa voice remote Pro for the ones we use most. Sadly, after using the Fire stick for a week, we have abandoned this decision due to numerous problems. While the Fire stick offers more functionality than the Roku and produces beautiful picture and sound, the interface is clunky and inconsistent. The biggest deal breaker for my wife and I is that there are just too many glitches with the operation of the Fire stick, with the main issue being that at random times no apps will launch from the apps row on the home screen, which is the main thing we need it to do. Restarting the Fire stick will usually resolve this, but not always. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. You can navigate from one app icon to another but pressing the select button just makes a sound but nothing happens and the app info that’s supposed to appear at the top of the screen does not display. Typically, if we get it to work, then turn the TV off, come back an hour later and apps won’t load again. Also, there are numerous other issues, like the back and home buttons stop working within apps, so you can’t return to the previous screen, or even exit the app. With the ambient experience turned on, it often won’t return to where we were previously, and we just get a black screen. Selecting a series we are watching from the Fire home screen always goes to the most recent episode, not where we left off, even though we have all the data sharing stuff turned on. Alex voice commands work well sometimes and voice search and actions are far better than the Roku, but simple commands like ‘Alexa, start display mirroring’ don’t work, which is a shame because just doing screen mirroring is more complicated on the Fire stick than Roku (or any other device we’ve used) because you have to manually put the Fire stick into display mirroring mode first and then connect to it-what a pain. You’d think a simple voice command would be a given, but no, it just keeps pulling up the ambient experience instead. Both my wife and I have no fear of learning new devices or systems, but the Fire stick just has too many problems in performing its most basic tasks. We just want to turn the TV on and have it work, which the Roku does flawlessly. I guess we’re sticking with Roku for now and will see how the whole FOX takeover goes. That deal isn’t until 2027, so maybe Amazon will work out some of these problems by then and we’ll give this another try. One note, when we first set up the Fire stick (which was incredibly easy by the way) the interface was different, then the next morning everything had changed to what I believe they refer to as the ‘New Fire Experience’. I don’t know if this change is what’s causing all these problems or not. UPDATE 6/27/2026 I am updating my rating from 2 stars to 4 because all the problems we were having with the interface have gone away. I'm not sure if Amazon pushed an update or what, but for the past several days everything has been working perfectly. We have been using the Fire stick exclusively on our living room TV now and my wife seems to always use it over the Roku now, even though both are connected. That said, we may decide to move forward with Fire TV now. Will update if anything changes. UPDATE 6/29/2026 Updating my overall rating from 4 stars to a weak 3. Well, I guess my assumptions were premature. The issue with apps not starting has still been happening, so I guess we were just lucky for a few days. And it's crazy, I will have to restart the Fire stick, then they'll work again, but then it can be just minutes later, apps won't launch. Also, over the past few days, we have had other issues; things like the Fire stick restarting in the middle of watching something, or a show exiting back to its start page for no apparent reason. In addition, even though we have CEC control enabled on everything, the Fire stick will not switch the TV to its HDMI port if buttons are pressed on the Fire remote. Roku does this flawlessly, every time, but I have never been able to get the Fire stick to do it. I can issue an Alex command 'Change input to HDMI-2' (which is the port the Fire stick is on) and it will do it, while 'Change input to HDMI-1' will not switch to that input. CEC control appears to be a big problem with the Fire stick in general. When it times out into sleep mode, it just goes to a 'No signal' screen on the TV, while the Roku will actually power down the TV immediately via CEC command when it times out. I find it shocking that this device lacks so many basic features. Bottom line, it's usable and we continue to use it on our living room TV. We can probably deal with the problems it has, and I think we may keep the other two we bought and connect them alongside the Rokus for now on a couple other TVs and see how they do over time, keeping the ability to switch between the two as needed. Hopefully Amazon will resolve some of these issues soon. UPDATE 8/27/2026 We've been using the Fire sticks now for about two months and overall our experience has been very good. After a rocky start, the devices have now been consistently stable for the most part, with the only annoying thing being that our shortcuts disappear on occasion for some reason. Restarting brings them back, and sometimes they just come back on their own. The overall interface and operation have been stable and everything runs smoothly, with snappy performance. We have no issues with screen mirroring thanks to the loader shortcut that we downloaded from the Amazon app store, which allows a single-click startup from a shortcut icon or one of the shortcut buttons on the Alexa Pro remote. Audio and video are flawless and operation and navigation is fairly intuitive. Although we still have Rokus connected to the main TVs we've been using the Fire sticks on, we have never once gone back to use them, which is a good sign. We do plan to move forward with purchasing another four of these for our remaining TVs and completely eliminate all of the Roku devices. I still can't quite give this a 5-star rating due to the few glitches mentioned and lack of customization, such as making the shortcut icons larger, but it's definitely a strong 4. Also, whether this device is right for a particular person should be carefully considered. I personally wouldn't recommend it for older people, as it's much more complicated to operate than the Roku and the OS is not as stable. But, we like it and it works well for us.

Responsive, versatile, and has all the features.
This stick is quick responsive and the best one yet. I always take it to me on travel, since it has a built in web browser to get around wifi sign in. It allows you to use it like a mouse for ease of use. For the money it's my favorite device. Has all of the major streaming platforms and now with Amazon's upgrade program allows you to get a nice discount. The remote control works well. Video quality is great, supports 4K, dolby atmos also. It lets you fine tune the volume control via the settings in the app.

Summer tends to cause issues
[EDIT] It turned out that the modem and router were the problem. I went upstairs to unplug both, and waited, then plugged them back in. That did the trick. Also, summer months and school vacation periods seem to cause glitches when kids are out of school and back on their games. I found a few old posts and emails that I had written that expressed my dissatisfaction for lack of internet activity. They are also hot/cold months that may affect the temperature of the internet signaling. Since I fixed it back in the spring, we have been able to view shows on platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, Tubi, Peacock, etc. So it doesn’t seem to be caused by the Firestick, after all. [\UPDATE] I recently noticed the firestick being updated, and was excited enough to point out to my husband, “Hey, look! They are updating it!” That excitement was short lived, because it immediately began taking time to buffer, and the ads now cause the firestick to run hot. Initially, we thought our router was acting up, but we are able to google and surf on our phones. So it’s not our router. I pull out the stick and unplug the cord from the firestick so it can cool down, but even that isn’t working any more. I was going to buy another, but now I’m beginning to suspect that’s their plan: make us believe our firestick is going bad, so we buy a new one. If I get another streaming stick, it won’t be Amazon’s. They’ve already shown us that it can only work temporarily until they force an update that ruins the stick. Well, I suppose they did manage to make tv viewing a thing of the past, because they’ve ruined our desire to watch tv. This means, I will no longer need to be paying for prime Amazon tv. If your platforms are showing the spinning arrows and grey preview panes, don’t bother buying a new stick. It’s their updates that are causing these issues; and a new stick is not going to correct it.

Fire stick is the way to go!
I’ve been really happy with my Fire Stick. It was quick to set up, and the interface is easy to navigate, even if you’re not very tech-savvy. I love having all of my streaming apps in one place, and the picture quality is great with very little buffering when connected to a good Wi-Fi signal. The voice remote is one of my favorite features because it makes searching for movies and shows much faster than typing everything out. The Fire Stick also receives regular updates and offers a wide variety of free and paid entertainment options. The only downside is that the home screen can feel a little cluttered with recommendations and ads, but it doesn’t take away from the overall experience. Overall, I’d definitely recommend the Fire Stick to anyone looking for an affordable and reliable streaming device. It offers excellent value for the price and has made watching TV much more convenient.
