PlayMates Star Trek Original Series Communicator

I wasn't looking for this, but it came up on my list of stuff to look at. The communicator is all plastic, and has lights and sound built in, the batteries (2-AAA) were installed when I received it. It was simple to turn the switch on, press the button and the cover flips open with the characteristic opening sound. The buttons work as well and give you a "scanning" sound and some clips of Kirk and Spock that sound like audio recordings from the TOS. This should go nicely with the Type 2 Phaser I got a couple of years ago. Nice props for an original series Star Trek themed party or get together. The price was right and it's fun, what more could you want? I think you'll enjoy it too.

Love the Star Trek phone so good and I love the green lights and the red lights and this is a good toy. You should get it. It’s so fun so I hope you enjoy this toy too.

Got this for a Halloween costume and am quite happy. It looks perfectly to scale as the TV version. It even flips open with a switch, with working controls, lights, fun sound fx. Solid closing lock. Sticker spiral display. Made of plastic. Great costume accessory, could work for fan film IMO. Belt clip is single molded piece of plastic, I'd hook it to a pants pocket instead of a thicker belt that might fatigue the joint. Comes in a great graphic package. Great value!

Unlike the equivalent level phaser, they hid all the screws on this one very well, so it looks good. It has an overall, and easily accessible, power switch on the bottom, so that you don't unnecessarily drain the power. But it does perform. The top opens with a button on the side and a spring and the characteristic click-click sound. Very nice. You even get audio clips from the show if you like. The speaker could be louder. The styling could be more metallic. But for the price, it's great.

Plastic and a bit cheap for the price but still a fun toy. It looks like it's decently made and durable enough. Flips open, makes those old style noises, and is fine for your basic costume party or desk knick knack. Has no lights but otherwise fine. There are better ones out there if you want to pay a lot more but this one is more than passable.

The sound effects are spot on. It's just a fun item to have. When I first got it I called out to the Enterprise but I didn't get a response. I was told to go online and found out that Starfleet had changed the frequencies last year on all of the active Starships. If yours won't transmit go to the online Starfleet database to find the new frequencies for this model. After the update, it transmitted with no issues. Also, make sure the Enterprise is in orbit. That information is also on the website. They are okay with you calling up to the ship but they will keep the conversation short because of other traffic. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Fun ! Quality toy !

First of all, this is a toy. It is not a studio grade prop or anything like that. All that aside, it is a very fun and overall well built piece of television history. I enjoy the classic chirps as you flip it open. Hearing the voices of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock are wonderful! The physical details are toy-like, so don't expect the painted on bits to be perfect. The sounds and voices however are spot on. Inexpensive and fun, a definite must have for a classic Trekkie.

The thing in the middle is just a sticker and the lid have no holes, but still a cool toy. It's got audio and sound affects.

以前に小さいサイズの物が出ていたので購入していたのですが、恐らくほぼ実寸だと思います。アメリカのスーパーがネットで同じ物を売り出していたのでどうしようか悩みましたが海外のサイト(勿論英語)を利用する事に躊躇いがあったため(英語できなくてすみません)、そして一時的に円高になり価格が下がったためこちらから購入しました。 当たり前ですが新品が届きました。 アメリカからどんぶらこっこと長旅でさぞ時間がかかるのだろうなと考えていたのですが意外と早く届けて頂きました。 横のボタンを押すとカバーアンテナがカパっと開いてくれます❗️、そうです、これです、このギミックが欲しかった！！ とても気に入って飾ってニヤニヤしながら独りになった気にコッソリ遊んでいます。。 お気に入りです、ありがとうございました。 カークより以上❗️

This is pretty well made, however I would have added some weights to make it more hefty. Also, Kirk's voices are not really required, the sound effects alone are fine!
