Whimsical Modernism
Courtesy of the Art Studio of the late artist and naturalist , Charley Harper(1922-2007), we are presented with twelve stunning examples of his artistic style, the ground-breaking"minimal realism". Like many children who came along from about the 1950s onward, when Harper worked as both a teacher at the Art Students League in New York, and also as a commercial artist, I most likely had exposure to his work via many children's books that he illustrated over the years. Several years ago, my interest in his work was whetted when "CBS Sunday Morning" aired a story on Harper and his relationship with his protege and biographer, the fashion designer Todd Oldham, who had admired his work as a child. Any child would be fascinated by the sharp simplicity of the colors and the designs of these paintings, and viewers of all ages will be amused by illustration titles such as "Headbanger", in which Harper captures the motion of a woodpecker banging a tree, "Jumbrella", Harper's own arrangement in black and grey, featuring two elephants shielding their young against rain that falls in unbroken diagonal stripes, "Think Pink" featuring a flock of flamingos, and "Loonscape" featuring a loon whose composition and reflection on a pond contrast sharply with the shape of the trees in the background. Harper captures animals in canyons in the daylight, and in a desert twilight, as well as fishes in the deep, a bear, dramatically hidden behind birch trees, cardinals of both genders, the animals of the Shaker Lakes Regional Nature Center, the motion of a robin in a birdbath, and a playful seal all in a distinctly appealing manner. The calendar also contains listings of national holidays of other countries, which makes it very educational. I've been trying to get a calendar featuring Harper's work for several years now, and this one doesn't disappoint. With these cute and delightful images before a viewer, 2015 should be a whimsical year!

HIGHLY recommended!
This calendar is amazing and beautiful! I love the variety of colors and themes- some pages are bright and colorful and have several animals, like the cover while others are more neutral tones and only one or two animals and everywhere in between. There is definately an animal theme, but unlike many "theme" calendars (or calendars in general, at least from my experience) this one likely won't get dull after a few months. The calendar we used in 2014 had puppies with cute sayings, and while they are cute, by like July, I was kinda tired of puppies being cute...haha. I think this calendar will be different because each month's design is so unique. I've already written in some events and birthdays (plenty of space, but not too big and chunky) and I'm hoping to frame some of the pages at the end of the year or even buy another copy just to have the pictures- it that awesome! Highly recommended!!

We loved this calendar
We loved this calendar. The colors are bright and vibrant and I love the artwork. The paper is good heavy quality. My only criticism is that when you write in a square, the writing will show a little on the next page. We fixed this by putting a piece of paper under the page.

A modern, lively perspective on nature.
Charley Harper's art is always brimming with action and creativity. I got this for my parents, who had the cardinal picture above our piano, while I was growing up. The selections in the calendar predictively bring Harper' liveliness and love for nature into his unique perspective. I love getting his calendars. A joy on every page.

Beautiful and Happy
My second Charley Harper calendar for the year. I bought three different calendars for 2015 - two for gifts, but I am having a hard time giving them away because I love them so much. They are happy, beautiful, colorful, peaceful, and I can calm myself down or get a good laugh from Mr. Harper's magical artwork.

Big CH fan.
this is the 4th or 5th year in a row I've bought a CH calendar. Love having this to look up at above my desk at work. Creative, fun, unique and plenty of birds and nature. Big CH fan.

Great addition to the home
Love this, from start to finish. As former Cincinnati-ans, we always enjoy seeing Charley Harper's paintings, but the extent of different painting themes is a fantastic way to mix it up throughout the year.

Great pictures by a great artist - lovely calendar
Bought as a Christmas present for my other half who loves Charley Harper's art work. It's another good quality calendar (I also bought her one last year) with well chosen pieces that are nicely reproduced on good quality paper. If you like Harper's art then you ought to like this.

Good, but confusing week layout
Good calendar, although wish that the weeks were displayed in a line from Monday to Sunday - rather than Sunday to Saturday...
