Q: Will this work for a queen size sofa bed?

I’m using the support on my queen sofa bed. It works fine.

Q: If the pad is only 48” long, does that mean it doesn’t cover the entire head to toe length of the mattress?

Yes, that’s why I bought the longer one. But after getting it I think it’s because you don’t need the extra inches at your feet. But I’m happy with the longer one. I also bought a thick mattress pad for extra comfort. Without the support board and the mattress pad mine was terribly uncomfortable. Now it’s good.
