The Complete Studio Albums

Great band!
After purchasing the most recent UFO release (the eight disc Strangers In The Night box-set), I thought it may be time to update my selection of UFO CD's. This Complete Studio Albums collection was a nice £25 and a perfect price for ten albums.I have bought a few of these budget box-sets in the past. I have the ZZ Top and Alice Cooper ones for example and they have served me well for years. This UFO one is no different. Each one of the bands albums are the current CD releases housed in a cardboard vinyl LP replica sleeve. All ten are housed in a sturdy cardboard box with all the art work on the front and the track list on the back. It's pretty standard stuff but perfect for the asking price. The collection covers the bands most popular phase, the Michael Schenker years. You'll get the albums Phenomenon (1974), Force It (1975), No Heavy Petting (1976), Lights Out (1977) and Obsession (1978). It does not contain the Strangers In The Night live album (go check out the big box-set for that). The box-set continues with the Paul Chapman led albums No Place To Run (1980), The Wild, The Willing And The Innocent (1981) and Mechanix (1982). It then ends with Making Contact (1983) and the drizzling Misdemeanor (1985).I personally bought the box-set for the Michael Schenker material. I think that period of UFO is criminally under appreciated and a must own for any hard rock/heavy metal fan. You can't go wrong with Force It and Lights Out, they're such good albums. The addition of the Chapman period is a bonus, they're good albums that just don't meet the standard of the previous line up. The songs are good but it's clear that there's something missing and the band sound more like an ultra heavy Bad Company rather than the UFO of old. Making Contact is an alright heavy metal record and I just can't get into Misdemeanor, no matter how many times I try. Each album comes with plenty of extras tracks. It's the already released B-sides and the odd couple of live tracks. The B-sides are all pretty good and make decent editions to the original album track lists. It does pad out each album a bit more than I'd like but it's still good to have these tracks available. The live tracks are all of good recording quality and should have been kept together as a live bonus disc. It would have made for a fun compilation album. There's not much else to say really without going into every individual album. You've got several fantastic albums, a few really good ones, a couple of alright ones and one really bland one. It's a good box-set and at the asking price of £25, I really cannot complain. If you're looking to start off or replace your UFO collection, this is the perfect place to start.

Great box set
This is a great collection of the Chrysalis albums. UFO deserve a reassessment. Strangers in the Night is one of the greatest live albums and certainly picks out the best tracks from the Schenker days. These are where all the classic tracks come from.It also proves that they were better as a live band than in the studio as this box set does expose a lot of filler. They also did some awful covers, luckily their version of Cold Turkey is not included here! The best album in the set by far is The Wild the Willing and The Innocent - not a duff track. I also highly rate both Mechanix and Making Contact even if they have the odd poor track but both are surprisingly good with the tight balance of guitar and keyboards.Misdemeanour is a strange album - it’s pure AOR with far too much keyboard and is certainly over produced. It actually sounds very good but it just is not a UFO album. It’s more ForeignerDespite the flaws a wonderful collection.

The golden years
This collection covers their best run of albums with schenker and chapman and I have compared them to my old cds and the quality of sound is better . You also get lots of bonus material which is great quality and enough to assemble a complete album on its own . Great vfm and a space saver .

Very good value box of 10 UFO albums.
This is a great value purchase!Moreso when you consider that some of these ten discs are now harder to find.I've had one or two on cd and vinyl, but now here are what I consider UFOs golden period. My favourite is Obsession, no doubt others have their favourites, but with the extra tracks included on each disc, some live, as I say extraordinary value. And I'd say if you're a UFO fan..get it while you can!!!

Terrific value
Terrific value. Taking ages to properly enjoyHaving a UFO renaissance at the moment. I never owned that much of their catalogue but was surprised how much of their material I was familiar with from back in the day. Probably from school days listening to my freinds' playing it. Great way to get loads of good remasters in a cost effective package.

Wot, no booklet.
Ain't going to review the music, not a critic, but I've loved UFO from the early 70s. Have marked this package down for the simple fact that, there isn't a booklet or any form of explanatory notes to this 10 album collection. The package itself is boxed and each of the cds is presented in its original sleeve, but the total lack of information is a let down.

Fantastic collection.
Great boxset from one of Britain's finest hard rock bands. These discs seem to be the remasters with extra live tracks, can't fault this set at all. At just under £25 for 10 albums it's an absolute steal... This set will be very collectable when it goes out of print.
