If you need a small-holed hay net for your horse, the cheap ones are a false economy.
If you're reading this review after buying a whole heap of cheap small-holed hay nets, only to find that they've been wrecked after a very short time of being used, you have my sympathy as I've been there, done that AND bought the novelty t-shirt.We've had several different ones, including a Shires 'Greedy Feeder' one, which lasted a whole two days before holes appeared in it and several other types which didn't last much longer. The cheaper alternatives are approximately half the price of this one, but buying them is honestly a complete and utter false economy, so I would thoroughly recommend avoiding them completely, taking a deep breath, and going for one (or two) of these instead.I've got a particularly greedy Highland Pony who needs his diet restricted, and after six months of using the first Trickle Net, I'm pleased to say that it still looks like new - and I was so impressed that I bought a second one. They're just made from stronger stuff, which makes the initial outlay feel less ouchy. Other than that, there's not much to say. They're just the best.

I used to order my haynets from Canada to get the quality I wanted (NagBags) but I came across these last year and decided to give them a try. I ordered two from the company itself in the UK as Amazon didn't sell them then. They arrived, looking very different to what I was used to but I filled and employed them and they have been so good that, when one of my ponies put a hole in one of the NagBags, I decided to replace it with these. My horses (two minis and two normal size) live on a Paddock paradise system so they use their haynets all day every day and all night too. Thus the haynets I use have to be very robust. These Tricklenets are just that as well as being excellent slow feeders. The design had changed a little from the first bags I bought to these I have just ordered from Amazon but all I would say about that is that they have improved their product by making it easier to fill, otherwise it remains an excellent haynet and, as my other NagBags are replaced it will be with Tricklenets:-) Highly recommended.

Makes horses lips sore and bleeding
I thought this was the answer to my greedy ems pony to slow down her intake - yes it works however she ended up with bleeding lips and the hair has still to grow back. It becomes a welfare issue after a few days so please don’t buy! Luckily we noticed before it became too severe.

Worth the money
I’ve wanted this Haynet for a while now but never fancied spending the money. After getting sick of my greedy cob eating all his hay in a couple of hours I invested. Best thing I’ve spent money on in a while! Well worth it, they’re really good quality, strong material, and small holes. He had it in last night and I came this morning and he still had hay left! 10/10 would recommend.

well made
Purchased in the help weight management for my gelding over the summer. The net is sturdy and well made however, my horse is very greedy and got very frustrated as he wasn't able to get more than a few strands of haylage at a time and this is reason for 3 star rating.

Works well. Hard to fill. Very tough material. But still overpriced
Certainly does the job. It's never empty. I'm not sure they are able to empty it. Once the net is almost empty the tight holes make it impossible to get any more out. It's very tough material. Very thick. Not very flexible although this may soften when soaked a few times. The shape and firmness makes it difficult to soak. I soak in another net and transfer. Its not easy to fill. Takes some time but does hold a lot of hay.Not sure it's worth the amount of money I've paid but time will tell with durability.

Excellent so far
I bought this net a couple of weeks ago in an attempt to slow down my very overweight cob, to make her hay last longer and hopefully help her loose weight. So far it seems to be working. It's definitely slowed her down. I was using an elim-a-net previously, which has fairly small holes, but these are smaller still, and the ropes don't creep across to make bigger gaps, like they do with the elim-a-net. There's nearly always still a bit of hay in the bottom of the net in the mornings, and I think she looks like she's lost some weight already. She's also not cranky in the mornings like she was with her old net, which she used to empty well before morning. It did take her a few days to get used to the new style of eating, which requires gentle teasing nibbles, rather than great mouthfuls! She got very frustrated with it the first time she used it, and just grabbed it and shook it! So far there's no sign of wear on the ropes. Due to the hard-wearing nature of the materials, the net isn't as easy to use as a regular haynet. When I first got it, the opening seemed to be along the long side of the net, which looked really easy, but it's elongated over time and the opening seems smaller. It's especially hard to undo it with freezing cold hands, and pull the top open. I've read on their website that the rope will soften with use so I'm looking forward to that. I've nevertheless given it 5 stars because it's very much worth the hassle to see my mare not stuffing her face! For me, it's definitely worth the money. My mare seems healthier and happier now.
