For adults too
I bought this for myself because I have an incurable degenerative disease and I thought I'd find it comforting. And I did.And I do.If you're the type of person who can see a message in a Pixar film (or you know someone who can), this is the book. The illustrations are amazing.Ausgezeichnet(for Amazon.de users)!

A child's introduction to death
This is a simple and brilliantly illustrated simple story. A duck notices someone following it - death. Over the pages duck and death come to some sort of mutual respect. Eventually, duck lays down in the snow and permanently falls asleep. Death sees that duck receives an appropriate "funeral".It may seem odd that a story is written that introduces young children to the concept of death but many must be faced with the loss of a parent or sibling. This book introduces the inevitability of mortality in a simple and re-assuring way and should be required reading for all children.

I like it, however
I like it, however, I would not recommend giving this book to small children. Despite the small amount of text and beautiful and innocent illustrations, it is still pretty dark/sad.

Touching
Heartfelt story that says a lot with very few words. Got me teary but in a good way - highly recommended.

An unusual friendship
A sweet, simple and sad story about death. The drawings add depth to the text, which became quite poignant towards the end. From the moment Duck became aware of Death's hovering presence, their inevitable relationship deepened into friendship. In the drawings, Death's gifts Duck with a tulip - but the text makes the assumption that the reader will know the significance. Perhaps that was deliberate - ultimately death cannot be fully known, only guessed at.While I enjoyed the book, especially the smiling, skull-faced Death and the quaintly appealing Duck, I was left feeling only sadness, where a similar book "Cry, Heart, But Never Break" uplifted me despite the poignancy.
