This worked great for compressing the piston rings while fixing my lawn tractor (John Deere L120). Inexpensive tool for a job I hope I never need to do again.

Work perfect, so far they work good for assembling John Deere hydraulic cylinders. Worth the price and easy to use. Can expand to several sizes and seems durable.

Works like a normal ring compressor. They're a PITA,but it gets the job done.

This tool will work but it should be lubricated prior to using it to compress the rings. The tightening mechanism binds if it is not well lubricated. The rings should be compressed as far as possible prior to trying to slide the piston and rings into the cylinder. Lubricate the cylinder as well.

I think this would probably work fine with bigger pistons on larger engines. However, on smaller 2 stroke engines (like my B&S 3.5hp) it does not work. The extra metal is rolled up on the inside and causes it to deform and not fully compress the rings. It makes more of an oval shape. Plus, there is no real way to grip it to get it to really cinch down tight. Really frustrating because you should be using an assembly lube, so you are already fighting a slippery situation. My recommendations to the company is a handle and a possible way to use a ratched instead of the square tube angle wrench they give. The old fingers pinching each ring in was actually easier for me, so good luck if you purchase this. Just not for me.

If you get this, they are very good. But please when you use this tool make sure there is no gap between the tool and the engine block when you are sliding in the piston. Check the gap several time and tap it down a few times then try sliding with one slow nonstop push. Takes some getting used to but it works well. The pliers worked very well also.
