Good idea that falls severily short
Update 3:If I could I would give this 0 stars as it's impossible to connect in a meaningful way to other branded bluetooth headsets. I also cannot hear anything due to faint volume and the suggestion from Uclear to resolve this was to buy their upgraded speakers at a premium price. Quite honestly I don't think that should be needed and the volume should be loud enough to be heard at motorway speed and with or without earplugs as that's how most people want to use their headsets. My helmet is a full face but this was "engineered" using "military technology" to be possible to be used with an open faced helmet which I see as very unlikely...Update 2:The first item was faulty and replaced and the replacement works. The pros are that they are easy to install and convenient not to have the boom to worry about. On the negatives:* Controls are so-so until you try doing anything else than playing and pausing music* Due to the illogical, and possibly non-correct, instructions I still havent been able to get these to work satisfactory with a third party kit* Voice is garbled and echoed, and very difficult to understand for who is on the phone. Forget about voice commands as Siri will not hear/understand a word* Volume is good in city but for faster riding, when you wear ear plugs, it's not sufficient. Hope this could be addressed in a firmware update.* Finally you can answer by voice command such as "answer" etc. Unfortunately any noise seems to be interpreted as "answer" ie every call is automatically answered to after a signal. The boom less operation is clearly the main feature woth this headset (not the controls which are fiddly) but Uclear has some serious engineering to be sorted out on their "military grade tech" (I suppose this just means it's US engineered as everything coming out of the US I marketed as "military grade").The permanent attachment for the helmet has started to rust after less than 6 months.Don't buy these if you can fit a Sena or Chinese no name product that features a boom microphone.

Soundtrack to your ride
The U-Clear HBC 200 Installed very easily in my Shoei full-face helmet, and has provided me with hours upon hours of riding music. The speakers are easily loud enough to be heard over earplugs, and the battery life is excellent for such a tiny, lightweight unit. The call quality is also very good both in terms of reception and transmission. Finally, connecting to multiple devices such as mobile and dedicated GPS simultaneously is not a problem, with the U-Clear helpfully prioritising calls or GPS voice directions over playing music whenever necessary. As a bonus, Siri can be used with this headset (in connection with an iPhone of course) to request directions or change the music. This however tends to work better at lower speeds, where the microphone quality is not impeded by wind noise.Overall a great Bluetooth headset for bikers of all stripes. Would give 5 stars if the buttons were easier to press with gloves on.

All this fiddling is not good for an expensive bit of kit
The microphones don't just select my voice, they pick up other noise, amplify it and then play it back loudly into my own ears, but oddly enough they don't broadcast it into my partner's headset. It picks up wind noise all the time and never turns itself off. My bike has quite a loud pipe (sorry everybody) and when I accelerate I don't just get engine noise, I get AMPLIFIED engine noise blasted into my head. Also the sticky fixing didn't stick the pads very well into my helmet and soon peeled off. I wish there was a way of adjusting the sensitivity of the mics but there isn't. I am going to experiment by taping over the mics and working out my own fixing system. All this fiddling is not good for an expensive bit of kit. (Oh and by the way it takes a long time to set up, build in another five minutes before you leave the cafe).

This is very good piece of kit
This is very good piece of kit. I can happily do 70mph on a motorway and have a conversations and the caller has no issues in hearing me and claim not to hear any background noise. They just complain i am shouting ;-). My only gripe is if you have pulled in somewhere and not on the bike and having a conversation, then the person on the other end claims there is an echo, but on the bike, no issues.Windy journeys on the motorway do seem to drown out the sound where as using earbuds you have no issues. All in all, great all sound, no boom mic, but at speed in certain conditions, you struggle to hear the music or the call.

Doesn’t like getting wet.
I’m on my second UCLEAR unit now, the first HBC100 was replaced after it let water in and became faulty. I upgraded to the HBC200 and it’s been a good unit with reasonable clarity and very good battery life. But it too has let water into the unit and it’s obvious that the seal between the unit and connector just isn’t up to the task of keeping the inner working dry. I’ve so far managed to get it dried out, but let’s face it, water and electrics don’t go well together and I’m waiting for the inevitable demise of the unit with baited breath. It’s a pity really as otherwise, it’s a nice comms unit.Update.....’It’s dead, Jim !’ Unfortunately, it couldn’t withstand the next days rain and yet again, it took water in. This time after shaking water out, trying to dry it out overnight, it submitted to the elements and died peacefully in its sleep.
