This radio will get your attention. The other I have would go off after a short while and tell you about the watch or warning. This one keeps going off until you go to it and push a button to tell you what is coming.

I live in tornado alley so severe weather alerts are a must. I can now review this because we've had several alerts this week. I bought this to replace my old noaa radio because it had a very small antenna and poor reception. I am overall very pleased with this emergency radio. I love that came with a wire extension antenna which allows for perfect crisp reception in my location and no missed alerts. I love the optional wall mountable red siren light, it really gets your attention. Programming it was fairly simple and straightforward, but you have to call the noaa phoneline to get your county codes to program it. The only flaw I see is it could be louder. It's a fairly loud alert, but not as loud as my old one and not loud enough to wake you up if sleeping unless its in the same room. My husband is hard of hearing and he really can't make it out unless he's standing close to the radio

I recently purchased this weather alert radio for my 10 year old daughter. She is really into weather and we also live in an area that gets high wind and down trees. So we both won with this one. It has a S.A.M.E program which stands for Specific Area Message Encoding which makes it flexible to pick up up to 23 county codes. It was pretty easy to plug in our county code and we continuously receive all National Oceanic & Atmospheric reports. It has customized warning modes. My daughter like the external warning light it came with. Sure enough a week after getting our weather alert radio we received a warning for high wind and possible power outage in our area. No trees fell and our power was fine. We were glad that we had an opportunity to prepare thanks to the MD-319.

Did not work for me. Did not pick up very good, a lot of static.

This is a radio for catching weather alerts and it does that just fine. I wish it had a light dimmer so one could not be disturbed at night with the brightness. Small clock feature is too small for using this as a clock.
