Spears 447 Series PVC Pipe Fitting, Cap, Schedule 40, 2" Socket

I needed caps for 2.5" Sch 40 PVC for a craft project, and these were perfect. I wanted to make scratching posts with a "tower of tracks" toy on the bottom without having to cut off one level to get them to fit over standard 3" pipe (and 2" is *way* too small). I managed to find the pipe (electrical conduit, actually) at a hardware store but NO ONE had 2.5" caps since that's not a standard DVW size. I'm so glad I found these, my cats love theirs and I'm donating 2 more to local rescues to use in fundraisers! The caps fit perfectly over the pipe just as I'd expect. For anyone complaining about them being the "wrong" size, PVC pipe and fittings are listed by the "nominal" size, i.e. the standard inner diameter of the pipe being used (not the fitting, the pipe the fitting is for). A fitting like these caps showing a size of "2.5 inch" does NOT mean the hole in the cap is 2.5 inches in diameter. They are made to fit over a 2.5" pipe, which has an outer diameter of 2.875", therefore the opening in the cap is ~2.875" in diameter. Same for 3" caps, those need to fit over a nominal 3" pipe, which has an outer diameter of ~3.5", so the opening in the cap is ~3.5". If you're not using Sch 40 PVC, Google "Schedule 40 PVC Pipe Dimensions Chart" and find the right outer diameter if you want to find the right size cap for your project.

I bought 4 of these 2 1/2" caps and they are all wrong. Item is clearly described as having a 2 1/2" socket (or inside dimension). This is not true. Even though the cap itself even says it's a 2 1/2" size, they are larger then that. I measured them and the inside diameter is 2 3/4" . They will not fit for my project. I took a picture of it with my tape measure on it to show this. Anyway, now I'm out of time and out of over $30 due to an incorrectly described product. Highly dissatisfied customer here. Edit: Apparently I made a mistake in my review above. I had 4 ends of PVC pipe to cap, each of them having an outside dimension of 2 1/2". So I ordered 4 of these caps at 2 1/2" socket size expecting them to fit. I was upset when they arrived and discovered that it was not the case. After I posted my original review, the seller contacted me and explained the situation. Apparently PVC pipe sizes are not exactly as they seem. A 2 1/2" cap is not 2 1/2", similar to how a piece of 2x4 wood isn't actually. 2" x 4". While I'm still upset at the situation, it is apparently my own fault due to a misunderstanding of the sizes. The seller was very kind and helpful in reaching out to me and explaining the situation to me and offering a way to resolve the situation. Any and all buyers should not worry about ordering through this seller. He took the time to personally reach out to me and help with the situation. I definitely recommend this seller to all buyers.

It fits and capped the pipe nicely. It’s what I needed. The price was fair.

The were fine .. but are schedule 40, just like here in town. Actual socket I.D. is Not 2.00" .. IT FITS Over standard 2" pvc pipe, which is maybe 2 1/4" OD+. Lost a star for not publishing actual I.D. Does NOT marry up with Amazon product https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OMHIHM/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_39 which has an actual O.D. of 2.000"

I would give this product 10 stars if I could, for this simple fact alone!! After ordering other caps from other sellers that were all the wrong size despite their claims, this one actually caps off a section of 2 1/2 inch PVC pipe - that fact alone makes this item 10 star worthy!!! Nothing frustrates me more than items that should fit but don't, and nothing makes me happier than an item which *does* fit, perfectly! I will be buying another identical item now that I know it is actually the size it is purported to be.

My fault but I thought this is for inch and a half kitchen pipe, but it's not - it's for schedule 40 and so it's the wrong size by a half inch oversized - my fault, not worth returning.
