Great season, sad it had to end!

Great end to a classy series. I nearly didn't watch Das Boot due to some reviews of the first season criticising the clean-shaven appearance of the crews even after weeks at sea lol. They had a point tbf as fresh water was like gold at sea, hence the beards. Ah well, I'm glad I didn't let that put me off. This series has been beautifully written, impeccably acted and superbly directed from start to finish. Yes, all the superlatives. I found it riveting in Season 1 and 2, good in Season 3 and back to its absolute best in Season 4. And the ending was a fitting resolution. It's always great when the time you invest in a long series is amply rewarded. Bravo Das Boot.

I love the story, and have the three previous series on dvd, it's moved in a different direction, still enjoyable to watch, but not as good as series one or two, plus it's much shorter in episodes.

A good story ongoing and access to true facts

I've watched all 4 series of Das Boot, and while the plot has fluctuated between the tense & dramatic on one hand and the improbable & ridiculous on the other, it's done a brilliant job of capturing the mix of motivations of people involved in warm whatever side they are on. You end up sympathising with some unexpected characters and the depth of their characterisation is excellent.However the plots, as I mentioned... Some of the storylines are just plain silly and the ending feels like they had another series ready to go but it was guillotined and they had to tie it off quickly. Such a shame. A real downbeat feeling to be left with after 25 episodes or however many.

Great ww2 series, loved every season

Apparently half the German Navy was actually anti-Nazi and worked to end the war while the evil Americans tried to prolong it to make money. Who knew? The whole underlying premise is ridiculous. Writers should have read a history book. Nonetheless, the series is well filmed and looked authentic.
