Works perfectly, easy to fit, and very powerful!
Was initially concerned about the few 1-star reviews, but this was easy to fit to my 6 D-cell MagLite, in about two minutes, with no tools. (I unscrewed the removable ring, as per the instructions' remommendation to try this way first.) So much power that it emits a strong spot light and a wider spread of illumination simultaneously, so the loss of 'zoom' capability is not missed. Compared to other torches (or flashlights to Americans, like me!), I do not doubt the 1000 lumen output. The light output and beam power did not disappoint. Comparable to a powerful automotive headlight. The low, medium, and high 3-way feature also works perfectly, though not by holding the MagLite switch for one second, as the instructions suggest, but by briefly clicking the light off, then holding down maybe half a second, while switching immediately back on. Repeating this cycles through the power settings. Overall, a fantastic and powerful upgrade to a suitable existing MagLite or high power LED conversion for a new MagLite.

outstanding!
it revived my old 6 d cell maglite! from a dim eye straining weak beam into a light sabre!.... that dosent exactly cut things with light but it can sure blind them lol!, seriously though my maglite now has a usable beam, no focus, but its dosent matter anymore since the beam it puts out has a decent flood and infinitely better range compared to the the standard bulb it had before, well worth it imo.

Not quite right...
Unit supplied did not fit correctly into the maglite, did work but beam adjustment and dimming function not available... have reverted to the original bulb... :(

A real honest review with pictures to help.
First impressions of packaging quality were good, it was well protected in a box in bubble wrap and the outer envelope. When taken out of the box build quality seemed excellent, sturdy and well made, it dropped right in, (here is my first issue) you have to unscrew the bezel to fit the LED in the head, on replacing the bezel there is a small gap between bezel and head that was not there before, this will be due to slight thickness differences, it’s not a big gap, perhaps 1mm but you can clearly see the bezel doesn’t sit flush.Fresh batteries inserted (6 X D cell) and a test outside in relatively low light pollution, in all honesty I was let down, I made sure the LED as it has 3 power settings was on 100% and it was, it seems no brighter than my cheap £12 LED drop-in which I also purchased on Amazon. The pictures I’ve taken show (picture 1) this LED, the Cree. As described it has no ability to change between spot and search light but in all honesty the flood of illumination that you get negates any need to swap between the two, I was pretty apprehensive at first but after testing I was at ease.Picture 3 shows My old LED drop-in that was £12 on spot light, this bulb has the ability to change between spot and search. AndAlthough the flood of illumination isn’t quite as good as the Cree it’s near enough in all honesty and the spot is just as bright even though it’s not rated (in lumens) as high.Picture 2 shows the search function on my old bulb, the lens is quite heavily scratched as you might see, this could affect the appearance of the light making it seem less bright (this old LED is on a different 6 cell Maglite with fresh batteries also). Now this leads me to the price. At the time of purchase I paid £35 + £5 p&p. Vs £12 and free p&p. The difference to me is so negligible that having paid well over double the cost of my old LED drop-in has kind of upset me and let me down massively. I was expecting much more of a difference considering the reviews of the Cree, 1000LM, 10W LED. So in my humble opinion it’s massively over priced and not good value for money.Perhaps testing the effectiveness at further distances will bring the Cree in to its own as these were tested at about 20 meters but personally If this ever goes wrong or I need to buy another LED I’ll be getting a cheaper one that’s just as effective.

Just use on full power!
Great product, arrived quick but the dimming function takes a bit of getting used to.

The quality.
This is the second Led i've buyed. Like the first one (for a 2 cell D) this one is working great. It took 2-3 minutes and there was LIGHT. WHITE LIGHT :-)The shift between the 3 modes working like a charm.I am very pleased with the purchase.RegardsKay Loewen/DK

Brilliant!.
Brilliant!... pricey, but in a six D-cell Maglite compares well to a much more modern (and expensive) LED Lenser torch. No special tools needed - it took me 2 minutes to fit. No focusing capability, but the reflector gives a reasonable compromise between defined beam and broader light spill to illuminate the immediate area.
