Lovely book, Excellent condition
I was very pleased with the condition of this book. It was not brand new, but was in excellent condition and was packaged very well.I love how the book is laid out. It has a number of patterns included, some for men and some for women. I haven't had it long enough to do a thorough review, but I do intend to try some of the patterns.

I love Burda
Some great basic patterns that include some super cute projects. I love how Burda encourages you to modify their patterns to customize your look. The mater patterns included in the book are on sturdy long lasting paper that should last for years. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Even a beginner can use this book.

GREAT GIFT
I purchased Sewing Vintage Modern for my mother who has recently decided to reacquaint herself with the dusty old sewing machine in the basement. She has already finished her first project of 2013. I've flipped through it a couple times. Although I know nothing about dressmaking Sewing Vintage Modern is still interesting and informative. Maybe I'll coax my mom into showing me how to make something for my girlfriend. This is a cool book to give as a gift or to put on your own coffee table.

Not the best, but not bad
There are several classic pieces that never change: button down and tuxedo shirts. Not surprisingly, two of the best patterns are men's.Many of the looks are instantly recognizable as being from the era, specifically the 60s and 70s. Some of these era's looks are hard to modernize, although they do try. It is a matter of something belonging to an age, and being so from that time that anything that borrows from it can't really be all that updated. The 30s don't look much like the 30s, and really there's not a lot of difference from those, the 50s and the 80s dresses. Not that they are bad, but it is not the iconic look you think of and nothing screams New Look. The most disappointing is that the 40s look was for men, one of the hardest eras to find women's patterns is also missing from here. Some of the looks were hard to place as why they were iconic, like the pajamas. I had to wind up asking my mother why this was included (Doris Day, for the record, lol.)Surprisingly, one of the best (and most modern looks) in the whole book was the 20s dress. Dropped waist, yes, but that can be easily modified to fit at the waist for a really flattering looks.Over all, I'm not sorry I got this book, and if you like vintage inspired that barely nod to the looks (in many cases) or are a 60s and 70s nut, then this is a great book. I tend to like pieces that borrow heavily from vintage looks with modern twists, and this does not deliver all that well. There are good looks and it is a good collection, but it may not be the best for true vintage lovers.

More great projects, sloppy editing
Again, I have a lot of the same criticism of this book at the "BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook"-- tons of great projects but the editing leaves a little to be desired. Just be sure to read through all of the instructions carefully before starting a project, and if something doesn't make sense it's probably an error, so just go with it and do what you think will work.I have found that Burda patterns run large. I would suggest making a muslin and/or sizing down.

Great find!
Get this book if you want to learn more than you already know about garment construction. I feel this book is only for a person who knows how to sew. Not a book for the beginner that's for sure. I believe you must have some experience before you buy this informative book - - this book is amazing!
