This tool was used to remove the spring tightened wire clamp that holds the large rubber seal on my Whirlpool front load washer(the spring part is easily visible when you open the door) which needed to be replaced. I consider myself mechanically inclined and like to do it myself a lot of the time. This expansion tool worked as advertised and definitely made the job easier. I left the expansion tool on the clamp and reinstalled it on the new seal just as easily. This tool is a must to do this job. I also watched a YouTube video for my specific washer (the same expansion tool was recommended and used) which also helped a lot.

Worked great to replace the door seal on my washer. Seems like it worked better that the pliers type tool would - it was nice that once I got the spring off, I set the spring and tool to the side until it was time to reinstall & I already knew the ring should fit over the seal as it was at the size I took it off.

I have a GE Fresh Vent front load washer. I needed to take the front boot seal off it it to clean the pump and check for a clog. The spring boot seal ring was maddening difficult to get back into position. I tried multiple methods and all failed. I got close by reversing a wood clamp, but ultimately broke the spring. So I ordered a new spring boot seal ring and this tool. It took 30 seconds to figure out how it worked, two minutes to stretch the spring the proper distance and another 30 seconds to take the tension off of the spring and seat it properly. This tool worked well and eliminated a whole lot of frustration and four letter words. If you need to replace the front boot seal on your washer, don’t think twice, order yourself one of these tools.

If you've ever taken the spring off of your front loader then you know what a pain it is to put back on. This definitely makes it easier. I do think it is a little awkward to twist the little gear to make it open instead of just being able to squeeze a handle but I got the job done so I guess that is what counts. Sturdiness: it stood up to the pressure of the spring without bowing or breaking. Was definitely easier to finish the job with the tool than without.

I ordered the pliers first. They didn't open far enough to expand my spring. I have fought this spring several times over my 29 years of owning this washer. I finally broke down and bought this. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. The tips fit into the holes much easier than the pliers. Expanding isn't hard. And you can keep it expanded while you do the repair, so you can just slip it back on. No expletives. No hurt fingers. Seconds to take it on and off instead of minutes or longer.
