This book is a masterpiece that overlays history, economics, finance, business, and politics. Yanis's explanations, conclusions, and theories are thought-provoking and presented clearly without jargon. His narrative performance is exceptional, especially since English isn't his native tongue. As you close your eyes and listen to him read, you're taken on an inspiring journey that incorporates the Socratic questioning, prophetic witness, and tragicomic hope needed for democratic energies to flourish against the forces of nihilism and poverty. This book aims to expand our creative minds, not to demand agreement on everything discussed. After all, technofuedalism is a theory equivalently pitched to answer a difficult question never provided to his late father. This review has been left to respect a true intellectual at the top.

Bought this book as a gift. Has dirty fingerprints on it and bent corner at the bottom - a bit disappointing :(

"Technofeudalism - What Killed Capitalism" by well-known Greek economist Yanis Varoufakis is the best book I've read in recent years! The central message: Corporations like Apple or Google sell licenses so that developers can program for their mobile operating systems. They don’t live off profits, but off license fees - essentially rent - and act like modern feudal lords who, for a fee, allow their vassals to cultivate the land. Such "cloud supercapitalists" exist in both the United States and the People's Republic of China; the remaining countries are vassals. This also explains the Biden administration's policy toward China, such as the ban on microchip exports. Even before this central message is presented, several chapters of this book deal with the history and metamorphosis of capitalism. We learn that under Roosevelt, the American economy was more like a planned, Soviet-style economy than true capitalism, which might also be the reason why the Austrian philosopher Rahim Taghizadegan called it "fascist". We also learn about the Bretton-Woods system with its gold standard and fixed exchange rates between the dollar, European and Japanese currencies, which required that the USA export more than they import. Once this balance could no longer be kept, the gold standard was abandoned and European and Japanese currencies became free-floating. The economic system from those days on was what the author called "The Global Minotaur" in another one of his books. Reading this book is quite challenging, as the analogies and explanations provided aren't easy to understand. But - no problem for high-IQ people!

Yes, we've seen YV on a zillion YouTuber interviews. What is interesting about the book is that he describes the generational differences between his father, h8imself, and the future generation, all experiencing these changes. An excellent book for Historians and ordinary people to contextualize the economic changes in our daily lives.

Varoufakiis has written a very interesting and well-documented book. However, like all good Marxists, he is very good on the diagnosis but falls short on the prognosis. Nevertheless, it is a book well worth reading to understand where our society is heading.

Wydanie jest dobre, ale treść książki nie jest zbyt interesująca. Autor ciągle się powtarza. Spisał swoje urojenia z salonu i zamieścił je w książce. Mimo to warto ją kupić i przeczytać, bo oferuje inne spojrzenie na świat.
