First one I got did not mount. Meike replaced it and now it works as expected
This is a revised review. The first adapter I received did not function properly because of a machining error on the bayonet. It wouldn't mount on my Red Komodo and it got stuck on my Komodo X. Because I didn't realize this until after 30 days, Amazon wouldn't take it back. Fortunately, Meike replced my adapter, and the new one works perfectly. It looks great optically and mounts on both Komodo and Komodo X. Thank you to Vincy and Meike for the help and customer service on this.

On the APSC CAMERA, I got my wide angle back
We all know while we using the APSC camera, the most Awkward thing is we lost the wide angle capability. Please check out the photos as I attached, I’m using the sigma art 24 and 105 After I combo up with Meike 0.71x speed booster, camera recognized as 17mm and 74mm (of cause you need to x 1.6), but F stop open up to f1.0. I love the bokeh that 0.71x delivered to me, hope you guys whom are using the APSC, able enjoy the full frame alike photos

Meike EFTR-0.71X can be used for Mostly EF lenses only a few EF-S lenses
Meike EFTR-0.71X Lens Mount Adapter Speed Booster 0.71x Focal Reduction Lens is good. But it can be used for Mostly EF full frame lenses and a few EF-S crop sensor lenses that I own below. The other EF-S lenses, I cannot even mount them. I wish I use it for all of lenses. Yes - Canon EF 50mm F1.8 Yes - Canon EF 70-210mm F4 Yes - Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 No - Canon EF-S 10-22mm F3.5-F5.6 No - Canon EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-F5.6 No - Canon EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-F5.6 No - Canon EF-S 17-55mm F2.8

AF is flawed, optics is good.
1. Build quality is good. The only con is that the rear cap is slightly different with the standard one. It's metal and a bit heavy. 2. Picture quality. Optically it is good, both in the center and the corners. I don't know how much of effective megapixels it might resolve, but basically I have not encountered a problem with the optical quality. Btw, according to the viltrox speed booster reviews, it had issues in the corners, this one does not have. 3. The real dimensions. It's not 0.71 but some 0.755x instead, according to my measurements. It might not seem a big difference (Viltrox was, according to reviews 0.8), but in reality it is. The square space of 0.71x on Canon Aps-c is 77.5% size of the initial frame (loss of 22.5%), of 0.755x, it would be 68.5% coverage, thus losing 9% more. So basically your pictures will be 9% less sharp because of this. The gain of light is around 0.6 T-stop, maybe slightly more, but not more than 2/3. So after all you get 1.2-1.21 crop factor and +0.8 F-stop and +0.6 T-stop. With 50mm F1.8 you get some 60mm F1.4 equivalent. 4. Autofocus is not good. With my copy, it's very inconsistent and does not work reliably on many lenses, backfocusing almost always with several lenses, including 50mm f1.4 (always) and 50mm f1.8 (not always). 40mm STM was a bit better but not completely reliable. I got in touch with Meike, but they have poor support that did not help me with it. Actually poor autofocus and lack of firmware support is the reason I decreased the assessment to 3 stars. 5. I have many EF-s lenses and tried it with them. Physically it works with any EF lens, though autofocus you need to double-check. - EF-S 10-22mm. Remove part of rear thread when it's zoomed in to 22mm and then you can mount it. Don't push it beyond 12mm because the lenses will hit each other. Starting from 12mm all the way to 22mm it works and covers whole frame. My lens does not have AF working so cannot check on that, but I can say it covers whole frame. Corners will be very weak but in many cases that's ok. Instead you gain light and couple more mms on the wide end. - EF-S 15-85mm. The same way you can mount the lens, starting from 17mm. The profile correction on this lens is very strong, so with the speedbooster it won't work and lens also does not cover the speed boosted image on any focal length with very heavy vignetting. AF was inconsistent. - EF-S 55-250mm. I changed the rear thread (you can buy one on amazon for some 30 bucks and then mount this lens on FF or speed booster) and since then have used this lens with speed booster rather frequently. AF works well. Slower but it's correct. You compromise on IS too (but don't lose it). Coverage of the frame is not bad, most of the frame is covered, especially if you focus closely. This lens with speed booster might work pretty well as a long portrait lens. In a way, using this speedbooster on the ef-s lenses is even more pleasant since you regain all the excessive glass and gain more than 100% out of your lens. - EF 50mm. AF is not reliable, but if you are attentive, you can deal with it. It also works with the vintage lenses, improving those a lot, at least for the APS-C. It improves sharpness, compressing the image and increases light transmission. With the non-AF lenses this Speedbooster is the way to go. With AF lenses - double check. 6. Note that with R7 (or R10, R50) the camera will tell you that this Speed Booster is not intended to use with the camera (it does that with any non S35 camera, and the original speed booster does that too so this is not a problem). Compared to the original Speed booster this one rarely shows purple circle in the center so in this aspect Meike is better than the original. Stabilization, including the IBIS works a bit weaker then with normal adapter, that's normal too, since camera does some recalculations and does that with some flaws. Sometimes the camera loses connection with the lens due to this adapter, this happens with all speed boosters, so it's also normal. If you mount this lens on the Full frame camera like R5, it won't cover the whole frame, since it's intended for APS-C, but it covers most of the frame. If you add digital stabilization in the video you'll get nearly full coverage and the medium format type look. With photos it's a bit more tricky, you'll have either to close down to F11 and expose the corners in the post, or cut out some part of the frame, but still you might gain almost medium format look. So, it is hard to use sometimes, but in some cases it gives you a lot. If you were thinking to pair R7 with an old and cheap full frame, you can just go with this adapter and struggle a bit with the autofocus, but you'll gain the full frame look and significantly increase the lens selection. But to be frank to take the full frame from the beginning would be easier since the lens selection for the R7 is still expensive and poor. I deleted my previous review by mistake so making it again, but with more info.

Really great
Focal reducers are really good for both increasing the light your sensor gets, getting that wider field of view, and to adapt new lenses. This one does the above but also has some safety pieces included to lock your mount to your camera to keep it from having that minimal but crucial free play. The clarity and image sharpness is retained and your get a full frame field of view. so if you use super 35 lenses, you'll get some vignetting on the shorter focal lengths for sure. With zooms, you might be able to zoom past your vignetting but this will give you a full frame view and on some sensors, a slightly wider angle of view than full frame. The build quality it awesome and the housing and glass all feel superbly crafted.

excellent speed booster
The Meike EFTR-0.71X Lens Mount Adapter Speed Booster impressed me with its sturdy, solid construction. It works seamlessly with my Canon EF lenses, delivering brighter images and enhancing bokeh with the 0.71x focal reduction. The lightweight design makes it easy to carry for outdoor shoots. I think it’s a great gift for any photography enthusiast, though a bit pricey it delivers excellent value for money. Overall, this is a fantastic tool for serious photographers.

I was originally going to buy the metabones adapter but this was flagged to me so i thought id try it on y Canon R7. Positives. The RF side locks in really well to the body. The weather seal on the RF side fits nicely. The control wheel on the side works well and can be allocated a custom function. The image quality with the speed booster on is largely unaffected , if pixel peaking one can see some very slight image fuziness in the corners of some images but then again its showing more of the actual lens image footprint on the sensor that one wouldnt usually see on an APS-C crop sensor so the tiny amount of softness could be the lens itself you just never see it on a crop sensor.. Works pretty well on most lenses but see the not so good comments below Great price compared to metabones Allows an extra stop of light Not so good When using some zoom lenses that arent equipped with IS the built in IBIS of the camera jumps at certain zoomed focal lengths when zooming through. . In my case this happens to my Canon EF 2.8 24-70 L when zooming passed 20-21mm ( as reported in camera by the speedbooster not on the actual lens focal length ) and my Canon 2.8 70-200M L zooming passed 69mm( again, as reported in camera by the speedbooster not on the actual lens focal length ) . The IBIS stutters at that point as i dont think the camera can work out whats going on as the reported focal length isnt the true focal length of the lens and at that point in the zoomed focal length compared to the true focal length a brain fart and the IBIS over reacts . The way around this is to set IBIS from always on to 'one shot ' so IBIS only cuts in just before taking a photo and not when zooming the lens .Although in video mode you cant do this as IBIS runs all the time so you need to avoid shooting video and zooming while filming when using the lenses which is a pain. Edit, I’ve found the stutter was due to ibis turning on , when the lens is wider than the actual focal length the camera turns Ibis off as the adaptor isnt providing the body with the correct focal length information. I have reported this to Mieke but they didn’t seem overly bothered to investigate and have never updated the firmware so I don’t use the adaptor anymore as of 2026 and it sits in a drawer . The finish on the adapter is glossy meaning it catches the light which isnt great if using for nature, i wish it was satin. The EF side of the mount whilst secure still suffers from the EF mount wriggle albeit very slight and no worse than Canons own system. The EF side hasnt been designed for the EF weather resistant gasket in mind so the lens gasket rides over the edges of the face of the adaper and provides no sealing what so ever, odd as the RF side is designed nicely and seals well against the body on that side of the adaptor. The warning that the accessory isnt designed for the camera every time you turn the camera on which you have to accept to use the adapter , to be fair you have to do this with the Canon speedbooster offering so its more of a camera thing that the speedbooster itself The instructions are poor, they provide gaskets to adjust infinity focus but the 'how to' is brief and doesnt really give enough info to attempt it yourself. Basically i wouldnt even mess with that unless you use manual focus and need to use the lens window to work out the focus distance. I contacted their tech support to ask if there was a fix for the IBIS issue , they just responded with 'try this please' and sent a basic firmware file but no instructions regarding how to install or installer file it so im no better off . So id say its a good product that could be better supported and could do with some very small design tweaks and possibly a frimware update for the IBIS issue when zooming non IS lenses . Id say its 90% there with regards to me being totally happy with it. Its very usuable as is however and the image quality is great, autofocus works great, the near full frame image is great... there are a lot of greats and not so many not so greats here.
