I've had this fireplace for almost 3 months now. I read reviews about problems with rust, so I bought some high-heat rustoleum and sprayed the whole thing when we got it. I did buy a separate cover to protect it from the rain, but it actually came off during a windy rain storm. I really wish this came with its own cover designed to fit. The firepit has gone through a few more rain storms since then. So far, it hasn't gotten rusty at all. Not sure if it's because of the original coating, or with the added rustoleum. Either way, I do suggest the added protection, as the original paint did seem thin. I like the larger size of the firepit, and the amount of light and heat it allows through the design on the sides.
