Insider [Blu-ray] [1999] [US Import]

Based on the true and truly awful 1990's history of Big Tobacco's lies and how they conducted scientific research into additives they proceeded to lace tobacco with, to make them even more addictive as 'nicotine delivery devices'. Crowe is the Insider, as a chemist researcher who is blowing the whistle on the tobacco company he works for, who try to intimidate him and his family. TOPICAL for Trumpian times, it follows how Crowe's Non-disclosure agreement almost stopped the public interest revelation. Al Pacino plays a "60 Minutes" Current affairs TV producer fighting to get Crowe's story on air. (actually- he plays himself- as per usual). Plummer is excellent as the one and only Mike Wallace- the producer and presenter of the story. CBS Corporate's fight with CBS News and the politics, greed at the highest levels.If it were not for the quite bizarre backing track which grates at you and gets worse over the course of the film- this would be a 5 star epic. Great acting by Pacino, Plummer and Crowe -he manages to be hyper-tense throughout, without hitting out.

Arrived promptly. It's a great film. Haven't watched it in a while so I can't give any kind of review (may come back to do that) but it's one of those films that you want in your collection .. well, I do anyway. :)

Saw this first on the TV and thought it was a fantastic film so wanted to keep it on DVD.
