I am puzzled by the mixed reviews. I installed 2 of the R2 units for my first stab at home (actually RV) automation. Everything went as planned, with no issues with connectivity, wifi signal, interfacing with Alexa Dot, etc. I am not sure if I just got lucky, or if others are not following the available instructional videos which are all over YouTube. I will say I planned out the system before the installation and re-watched the best videos on the Sonoff 4 channel controllers. I am going to expand my system and purchase 2 more units as I am very excited about the automation success. I will also add, in Google Play, the ratings for the eWeLink app also left me concerned, but again, everything works as it should and the app is very user friendly. I am not aware of any security concerns or having the system "open" as others have mentioned. In fact, if there is any complaint it would be I have to log into the system again with user and password everytime I use a different device to control the board (sans Alexa). I control lights, generator, and an awning with my first two units. Once I connected my Echo Dot, it doubled my satisfaction as I never thought it would be so easy to speak out commands. It really is like having a personal assistant at your immediate disposal to do tasks and research for you. There will be no going back. And for those of you considering marriage, you may want to consider this instead. Far cheaper, hasn't talked back or complained once, and if it ever misbehaves, you can easily pull the plug.

I used 3 of these to convert my whole home Baseboard heating into a "smart" system. Each channel pumps the switching12v to a bank of high amp relays which are connected by the black/red pigtails strait off my independent Baseboard 20a circuit breakers. 240v power goes through the breaker to the relay by the pigtail, switched by the relay that is controlled by the sonoff, then back through the red pigtails to the lead in the breaker panel feeding the thermostat then into the heater. It works great! I can schedule zones to be on/off and different time of the day, but most important I can turn OFF all the heaters during the 2 peak power periods where my electrical rate is nearly 2x normal. I've also got 4 sonoff ZigBee thermometers that can override and turn everything back ON if it gets too cold. It works great and these 4 channel devices are the heart of it all!

Itead Sonoff has really listened to their community of customers with the development and release of the Sonoff 4-CH Pro R2. Several improvements over the original Sonoff 4-CH: they separated the relay commons from the main line power and from one another (which allows the relays to each control a different voltage independently) but they also added a Normally Closed contact to each of the 4 relays (which allows for user designed interlocking between the relays). The addition of RF control also increases the functionality of the product using the RF remote 433MHz (sold separately). Now the relays can be controlled locally from the device using the buttons, remotely using the eWeLink app (free download), and from the RF remote. The LED indicators on the device and the graphics on the eWeLink app let the user know the state of the relays. Another great addition with the 4-CH Pro is the ability to power the device using either DC power using the barrel jack input or via AC power using the terminals. The device also can be voice controlled using ALEXA, Google Home, Google Nest, and conditional programming can be set up using IFTTT. The relays can be set for self-locking, inching, interlocking, and a combination of self-locking & inching using on-board DIP switches or using the eWeLink app. I have been using Sonoff products for several years and they provide excellent support when needed. They consistently continue to improve their products’ hardware and software based on user needs and user feedback. You simply cannot beat the simplicity, functionality, and quality of Sonoff smart devices, especially at this price.

The Sonoff is installed at a middle school. The Admin office is being remodeled and the 1950's era bell system couldn't be moved. The Sonoff is mounted in the data room, 18Ga wire was run to the office and connected to the push button switches on the ancient bell system. Now, the office staff can ring the bells from their temporary office on the other side of the campus.InstallationThe only problem I had during install was the initial connection to the Sonoff. The wireless at the school has both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the same SSID. I didn't notice that my phone connected to 5Ghz which isn't compatible with the Sonoff. Once I figured that out, all I had to do was disconnect the phone and move far enough away that it reconnected to the 2.4GHz wireless.The only criticism is that the dip switches are under the housing with no access without removing it. Once the Sonoff is mounted you have to remove it to get access to the cover screws if you need to change the dip switches. Not a big deal in this case because I set them before mounting and they were happy with the 6-second delay I selected.OperationThe App is nice looking and very easy to setup/use. The only issue in this scenario is that they wanted to have several different users but the app only allows one user. Well worth the money.

I needed to automate two pumps, which had to be turned on for a specific amount of time each at specific times of the day. This was perfect. Easy to set up and easy to program. It's everything I hoped it would be.

I got several of these and almost immediately they all started just don't their own thing and randomly flickering lights on and off with no control. Sometimes they worked as intended but then they would just start flipping lights on and off and resetting the wifi connection and eventually burning out.

Despite Amazon's "auto-alert," telling me my order would arrive late, this item came in quickly. It works great. I had a little trouble getting it to pair with my wifi but the help section in the app got me straightened out. The switch works perfectly and setting it up with Alexa was a breeze. I'm going to order a second one for another project I have in mind.
