Stopped reading correctly after a couple months
I really wanted to like this external Blu-ray drive, but unfortunately, it's been a huge disappointment. It worked great at first, but after 2 months of use, it started to give me consistent "IPC errors" whenever I try to read blu ray discs. When I first got the drive, it was quick, reliable, and easy to set up. I was able to back up blu rays without any issues. However, after about a month, things started to go wrong. Now, every time I try to rip a blu ray disc, it gets 400 MB in and freezes, then after a while gives me an "IPC error" an. This issue renders the drive almost completely useless. I bought it primarily for backing up, and now it doesn't even read the discs the whole way. I've tried restarting, reconnecting the drive and trying other discs to no avail.I had high hopes for this product, but now I’m just frustrated. It's hard to recommend this drive when it's so unreliable after 2 months of use. It may work for you initially, but if you’re looking for something that will last and consistently perform well, look elsewhere. Very disappointed.

This will write to a blu-ray disc
This will write to a blu-ray disc. The listing sort of says that on the graphics, but is very cryptic in the text, making this seem like a scam trying to sell you a blu-ray reader that will not write. It does, in fact, write to blu-ray discs.I downloaded a free disc-writing program, plugged this in to my pc, and it wrote a disc with no problem.Strangely, as others have said, it will not read a disc without a powered usb outlet, meaning you need a usb splitter that plugs into the usb port on your computer as well as having its own power supply that plugs into a power outlet. When set up like that this thing works flawlessly, but without the powered usb port, it will not read data from a disc, or even load a dvd.

An excellent peripheral for computers lacking a DVD or Blu-Ray drive
I bought a new laptop last year, and I love how quick it is, but the trend these days with laptop and desktop computers alike is that they no longer come with DVD or Blu-Ray drives.I often use my laptop to watch movies, and it's still useful to me to have the ability to burn data to optical media for long-term storage and to install software with a DVD/Blu-Ray drive.I was just a bit unsure about whether this would work for my specific case since my laptop is set up in dual boot mode (Linux and Windows 11), with Linux as the operating system that I boot into 99% of the time.I'm happy to say that this drive is recognized perfectly without problem in Linux, and I've been watching movies using it without a hitch. The speed of the drive is very good, and it's nice that it supports Blu-Ray for greater capacity disks.I highly recommend this for the many of you out there who would like to use optical media with either your laptop or desktop computer.

Used to digitize blue ray
Used this to digitize wedding videos on my 2017 Intel based MacBook Pro. Worked as expected. Computer needed a reboot before it was properly recognized.

Works okay at burning Blu-rays, but that’s about it
I got this to burn some Blu-rays that I needed to make, and that’s about all I can get out of it. It struggles to play the discs, and it will crash my laptop if it try to. Idk how that is even possible, but it is. Bear in mind, I have a pretty good laptop, which can run some pretty hefty games with no issues. Now, idk if it’s the etching of the disc, or the mechanisms within this device, but it will sometimes make a burning smell? Idk what is causing it, and it isn’t too too bad, but it is noticeable.Outside of that, if you were like me, and needed to burn some Blu-rays, it will do the job. The inputs are pretty versatile, and I didn’t have to install any drives to go along with it. I use Windows, and it has zero compatibility issues, burning wise.

Great Drive, but not exactly plug & play...
The Blu Ray Drive Was Just As Described!! It Arrived In PERFECT Condition And It Was Shipped Quickly And Packaged Very Well! However in my experience, it's not just a simple plug and play situation...the drive was recognized with no problem on my older desk top Dell 790, but my VLC player did not play a Blu Ray without some tweaking...I had to watch a YouTube tutorial video, create a folder in my program data files, and add a file to my VLC player for playback!! It all worked fine after that, and it wasn't really that difficult to do (just a little time consuming)...I tried the software they recommended as well, but it didn't work and seemed like you had to purchase additional software? Anyway, My VLC media player is free and works great now after the simple modifications!! Please contact me on Amazon if you need more information or have any questions!! Rick :)
